Well this is interesting. I put in my 7.6 install CD this morning and it booted right up! At first I was a little shocked it might be the mint-condition, purchased-in-original-sleeve OS8 install disk, so I popped that one back in to find it too is now booting normally! What the hell!? Somehow...
The machine SadMacs even when the CD drive is the only attached device, so it's not an ID conflict. I did try changing the ID of the drive though.
Also, I think in a Q950 the internal SCSI bus is terminated on the motherboard, so a single device shouldn't need an additional terminator, but the...
Hey all, I've recently started setting up a Quadra 950 with SCSI2SD. I have encountered an issue where connecting a CD-ROM drive causes the machine to SadMac on boot, sometimes showing a movable mouse cursor for a second beforehand. This occurs regardless if the CD drive is connected internally...
He's named after Linus Torvalds!
I went with the straight cuts only.
This is going to be a very rough looking chassis by the time I'm done with it, surely.
Linus loves blunt objects mashed into his face. It's a cat thing. As you can see I went with the Wiss snips, and they work quite well.
The project is kind of slowing down again, due to other things occupying my time. It will be done soon, I'm just trying to think of case designs that will...
I managed to find a few things on that drive in some sort of backup folder, complete with a backed up system folder. Inside it there was a PPC Upgrade Card enabler, some related Control Panels, and a readme for the card. I should be able to boot using the PPC card with those in the right place...
What the hell! I am so mad right now.
The other cable harness now has the same symptoms with its video cable, power-off-upon-poke and all... this time the color is blue. Guess I'll be ordering a whole reel of IDC cable.
Hm, how unfortunate. I decided to use that Quadra 630CD (It's actually a Performa) to make some System 7.5.3 floppies, and it appears to be in pristine condition, but...
It was booting just fine off a CF card yesterday, but today when I went to turn it on it gave me the "No boot disk present"...
I ordered new caps for the LCII and the PSU, which is putting out funky voltages:
Quadra 950 won't boot from hard disk and says "You need a PowerPC Mac". I swapped in the PPC upgrade from the Quadra 800 but nothing changed. I guess I may be wiping that drive, but not before I rig it up in an...
The LCII won't boot... When plugged in and switched on, the PSU and speaker make a buzzing noise with random frequencies. It seems to only happen when the orange wire is connected from the PSU.
Q950 & HDD work fine, needs a PowerPC upgrade card or a fresh install of 7.6.1 to use the HDD...

I recently got involved in reverse engineering the power architecture of the Quadra 630, in order to do an ATX PSU conversion. One thing I noticed is the large differences in component values between models, and implementations. Now I am very interested in finding out what the differences are...
Take a look at page 4 to see the full schematic for the adapter, it's just two resistors. My own implementation of it happens to be a nasty bodge-ridden mess, lol.
I'm pretty sure a 1KΩ resistor would prevent the Mac from powering up at all, pulling /PFW too low. I know this since I went pretty...
You'll need a load resistor to #PS_ON as well to bring that line high when /PFW goes low, otherwise it won't be high enough to flip the inverter back around.
I never had any luck with the 74HCT04 and no load resistors. I only ever saw it in-use for an iMac. I'm guessing there are minor...
