Okay, just put in the RAM and installed the logic board. Works just fine.
So out of my two SE's, one is working perfectly. The other one (the one that I first posted about in this thread) I believe to work but I need another system disk to be sure, since it doesn't like the one I have...
Ohh, okay. Thanks, everyone.
Doesn't it ever get on your nerves when...you know how you think you have a good understanding of it all, that everything makes sense, and then you learn some obscure exception to your general rules? Like, when I see a resistor partially disconnected from the...
I just now opened my 'working' SE to install its RAM, but I never got that far. Upon close inspection of the board, I noticed that one of the components is completely detached from the board on one side:
Now, I'm used to capacitors being the cylinders that vertically stick up...
Unfortunately, I don't have another system disk. And I couldn't figure out how to download the Apple website's OS onto a floppy. I didn't even get past the first step; the Centris 610 couldn't properly read my CD!!

Hi,
I installed the FDD that Scott Baret sent me, put the other HDD back in, and turned it on...
It rejected my system disk every time.
3 possibilities of malfunction:
a) bad system disk (but it worked fine last week, so I doubt it)
B) bad floppy drive (but that thing looks new; besides...
No, I mean it's already out.
I took apart both of my SE's to pinpoint the problem in one of them (refer to my other posts in this forum) and to slide out the logic board in one of them, I had to remove both Radius cards. One is MUCH tougher than the other, and so that one, since it's already...
Ok, thanks.
What I'm going to do...that card comes in two parts: the part in the computer's main compartment, with the port on the outside of the SE, and then the part that connects to the logic board, that in turn connects to the other card. Right now I have a hole in the back of the SE where...
I have a Macintosh SE with a Radius Full Page Display card installed (well, it's not in right now, but I'll put it back in once I give the SE some RAM). After doing some research, I can deduce that it is used to connect to an external monitor.
Just wondering out of pure curiosity, when the SE...
Hi,
Thanks to Scott Baret and equill, who have suggested that the RAM is to blame, I switched the working SE's RAM into the non-working one, and...you can see for yourself in this video:
So now what I have to do is a) switch the HDDs back into their original SE's, B) order RAM for the SE...
Thanks for your response equill--
I decided to take apart both my working SE and my non-working one and switch their HDDs so that I could hopefully pinpoint the problem in the malfunctioning one.
Here it is:
Here are the SE's, when I remove their cases. The NON-WORKING SE is on the LEFT; the...
Hi,
Recently I've had one of my SE's display an error code identifying an illegal action. It also displays the number 1000, but I'm not sure how to find out what chip that refers to.
Anyway, yesterday a replacement Miniscribe HDD that I ordered arrived. I installed it into the SE, turned it...
No, I don't need to back them up. They contain useless files from my dad's office. He still works there, but all the files on those floppies are of course useless by now.
I simply have those floppies to use as storage when needed.
So I don't care that the data on them now is disintegrated...
Hi,
I have one of my SE's on right now, and I decided to try running a few of my millions of floppy disks that I salvaged from our old house.
Most of the 800k disks that I have are unreadable by the SE, when they previously worked fine. Not only that, but when I select the option to...
Thanks for your response, equill--
No, the floppy drive is completely empty. I think it may need replacing...
And after a bit of research, I understand more about all this, and I simply realized that Option had no effect because I removed the internal HD (which is non-working anyway) and the...
TetrisMaster--sorry, but I have no idea. :-/
I just now re-aligned the floppy drive. I also re-seated the RAM.
And I get the exact same thing.
Here are pics:
In addition to that, the floppy drive will not accept floppy disks! I meet an 'invisible barrier' that...
Hey,
Okay, for those of you who have read my post about a second Macintosh SE with a defective hard drive...
I had forgotten to mention this...that while I was running it from the floppy disk, I had to go downstairs to get something. When I got back up, the SE displayed a warning about an...
Ohhhh, okay. Thanks.
The screen's fine, as far as I can tell, but at the moment all I get is the 'sad mac' surrounded by a black screen when I turn it on. But once I replace the hard drive, that problem should be fixed as well.
Which is good; now I only have to get a hard drive without...
Hi,
I have my second SE open to remove and clean the fan. Aargh! I was able to loosen and remove all screws holding it onto the board (the analog board, I presume?), but there is a set of two very stubborn wires that are glued in several places to the board, with the fan at the other end...
Yup, those are leaking capacitors and you'll want to replace those as soon as you can.
I've never done it myself, but from what I hear it's easy and it highly likely to permanently fix the problem. :)
