Yeah, I noticed that as I was reading through the manuals. Another big difference I noted was the lack of support for floating point numbers.
And as far as the "newer" manuals go, assuming I ever need them, I'll just look on eBay and see if anyone's selling them. But I'm not too concerned...
Ok, so seriously, I need THE authoritative manual for Applesoft BASIC.
I was having fun programming random things on my Apple IIc the other day, but I got frustrated since my knowledge of the language is still so limited. I mean sure, I can make pretty colors, but I feel like I can do so much...
Thanks for the input everyone!
I'll return the CDs I have now, and get the 'full' install disks, I didn't realize that the ones I got were only for specific computers.
And thanks Gorgonops for giving this thread a practical application by testing it in your PowerBook.
Once I return these I'll...
Here are a few pics. They're on Flickr so that you can zoom right in and see the text.
Here's the "Kernel panic" mode shown when I attempt to boot from my CD:
Here's what happens when I hold down Option. Note that the Hard Drive and the Mac OS Install Disk both show up, although...
McDermd, thanks so much for your key combinations, I'll try them out immediately.
However, unlike what you believed, the OS Install Disk actually does show up as bootable, along with the hard drive when I hold Option.
Okay, so I'll go up and try Command+V, and I'll post back here to see what...
No, this is the item:

As you can see, it specifies no particular model.

I have a nice silver PowerBook G4 (exact model and year unknown), that stopped working a while ago. When you turn it on, it shows the light gray screen with the dark gray apple, and the spinning wheel directly below it (standard behavior). But the spinning wheel never stops spinning. No...
Yes, I agree with Coius, copy that disk! I can practically guarantee that one day it will suddenly stop reading on any computer.
I did the same thing with a series of original Mac 512k system disks, including MacPaint and MacWrite. I have them all backed up, and I use the copies.
Floppys do...
So I was on my way into my room, I was going to turn on a couple of my 68k Macs that I haven't given some exercise to in a while. So on my way in, my brother stops me and asks me what I'm doing. I answered that I was about to turn on a couple of my old computers, to which he replied, "Pshh...
Hey,
You also know, right, that you don't need a disk to have fun with the Apple IIc...I mean sure, with disks and whatnot it can run some pretty cool stuff, but I just use my IIc to practice my skills at the Applesoft BASIC programming language.
When you start it up and see "Check disk...
I'd recommend switching out analog boards before you try to use it again. Try to find a working SE/30 analog board to use while you deal with the one in the machine now. And, if the screen still zaps you, then you'll know that it's the CRT that needs replacing.
Or, if you don't want to get a...
Nah. I have a Macintosh Plus with a dead battery also, and the only noticeable effect is that the date/time reverts to something like 1/1/1904 at 12:00 am every time I turn it on.
Capacitors can be damaged even if it's not visible. A component blew on my Macintosh 512k's analog board (causing...
Actually jt, I found that information in an eBay auction for a Conner CP-3045 hard drive:

I've also read in these forums that it's possible to...
Hi guys,
Wow, it's been a long time since I posted! I've been very musically active recently and so unfortunately have not been able to do much with my computers. I still have a Centris and a 512k to get back up and running, and all computers need more software. So hopefully when I have more...
And to add something else, with regards to the crackling screen...my Macintosh Plus works great, except that it crackled once as well. Turns out it's relatively normal and shouldn't cause any problems--not for now, anyway.
Here's that thread.

And Mac 128's right...
I turned on the Plus again today. When I flipped the power switch, there was the startup bong and, I'm happy to say, no loud fizzling!
However, when I put my ear close to the machine's top vent right above the analog board, I did hear a clicking sound, as if the fizzle were more "spread out"...
