Reinstalling Mac OS on an SE

Hi, Okay, so I think I'm clear on everything except the disk images. You asked 'how many do you want', but I'm not sure what you meant. Like, the download page said 6.0.8 800k disk 1 of 4, then 2 of 4, etc. all the way up to 4. I downloaded all 4 and wrote them to a CD-R. So does that mean...

Reinstalling Mac OS on an SE

Before I begin I'd like to apologize beforehand for my complete ignorance in this matter. I know how to reinstall OSes for my other Macs, but ever since I got the SE I realized that it works quite a bit differently. Now that I got my 20 800k floppy disks, I decided that I'd go ahead and...

    My 800k disks arrived!

I ordered 20 800k floppy disks from DisketteConnection.com for my Macintosh SE, and they arrived today. Needless to say, after the SE formatted it, the floppy disk works perfectly. At least, the one that I used. I hope the other 19 will be the same... Anyway, now that I have these 800k...

A pointless question that keeps nagging at me...

As some of you may know, among my Macs is a Macintosh Centris 610. Is it pronounced Centris six ten, or Centris six hundred and ten? -Apostrophe

    Macintosh SE question

So you all agree that reformatting the hard drive can definitely help. You also agree that I need to use another Mac to connect via LocalTalk, download the operating system, write the 800k floppies, and put them into the SE. But what if I just connected the SE to the internet? But I probably...

    Macintosh SE question

Ok, awesome. Final question, then: Where can I get Mac OS 6.0.8 in 800k floppy disks? I've been surfing around, but couldn't find them. Any good websites for this? -Apostrophe

    Macintosh SE question

REVISION OF FIGURES: I booted the SE (it's still on, in case I need to test anything else). Microsoft Word 4 took 1 minute 45 seconds, whereas TeachText took 10 seconds. And also, the SE has 4 MB of RAM. So I guess that a re-installation of the system will do some good. But, tell me, how...

    Macintosh SE question

Thanks, I'll try and get a hold of more RAM. To do that, of course, I'll need the proper Torx-15 screwdriver that I keep hearing about. When I said 1 MB of RAM, that's at least what it says on the outside of the Mac. Next time I boot it up I'll see for sure. But anyway, thanks for your...

    Macintosh SE question

It depends. TeachText probably takes somewhere around 30 seconds, but Microsoft Word takes a bit longer. The SE has 1 MB RAM, Mac OS 6.0.4, (or is it 6.0.8? Can't remember), has a 20 MB hard drive, and was manufactured in '88. How long does it usually take to load programs on an SE?

    Macintosh SE question

Hi, A few weeks ago I acquired a Macintosh SE from eBay. It's an awesome Mac, and doesn't seem to have anything at all wrong with it. These 20-year-old Macs are much better than most people give them credit for. But I've never had a Compact Mac before this (I didn't even know they existed...

    It depends on the CD

Hi, Earlier I posted here that the sound coming from my Centris 610 was much quieter than usual. But I experimentally ran a program on it just now, and the sound came out loud and clear...I guess it just depends on the CD. Anyway, there we go... -Apostrophe

    HA! It was the battery!

A few days ago, my battery arrived and I put it into the iMac. Then I reset the PMU, and here we are, several days later, the iMac showing NONE of its previous time forgetfulness. :) Well that's it, just thought I'd share. -Apostrophe

    Centris 610 questions

Hi, I checked the cable you mentioned, I even dusted it off and reseated it on both sides. Booted up the Centris, put in a CD...still didn't play it as loud as it used to, and the alert sounds are still loud and clear. But an idea just occurred to me. For a while the Centris was without a...

    Centris 610 questions

Hi, One of my 3 Macs is a Macintosh Centris 610. It works really well, there's nothing wrong with it, but I noticed something strange when I turned it on a couple of days ago. When it does alert sounds, and when it speaks text, I hear it loud and clear. But when it plays any music CD at all...

    Mac Plus abuser

Oh, come on! I'm not nearly as immature as you seem to think. No, I hadn't realized that it was the same guy, but I distinctly saw him slapping the Plus near the middle of the video. Never mind, it was just a matter of small interest, but I assure you that I don't hold grudges against people...

    iMac G3 backup battery

Ok, I just opened up the iMac (I accidentally cracked some plastic off while lifting off the bottom housing, but don't worry, the iMac still works just as it did before), and had a look at the logic board. Wow, those capacitors are HUGE! Anyway, I saw the battery and recorded its information...
