At wit's end with a Plus - odd behavior after recap

Using 99% IPA (or 100% if you can find it) will speed up drying faster than 80% IPA. Since it has so little water it leaves very little behind when the alcohol evaporated.

    Using the new-build MicroMac Performer

For fun I'd recommend trying the GemStart driver just because of the startup animation, that sort of thing makes me smile. If I recall there are two versions of the driver, and the 2.x version is better for System 6.

    Using the new-build MicroMac Performer

You could use Speedometer 3.06 to do some benchmarks. If the card is working properly the CPU test should be about 3x faster than stock. I don't know if I've ever tried mine with System 7, Sytems 6 seems a lot more responsive with the accelerator vs. Stock. I definitely have some audio issues...

At wit's end with a Plus - odd behavior after recap

You can also try removing and re-seating the SIMMs even if you don't have contact cleaner. If your SIMM sockets have the plastic clips holding the SIMM in, be very gentle or those can break. Just moving the machine around could have jostled something and caused a poor connection.

How urgent is recapping a Quadra 610 when the logic board looks in pretty good shape.

Sometimes the solder under IC legs will corrode from cap goo and be completely eaten away, and you can't tell with the naked eye. I'd recommend using some magnification and a dental pick to gently put some sideways pressure on each leg of any dodgy looking chips and see if they have any movement.

Need Help Identifying Macintosh Plus Upgrade Card

I think in the $200-$300 range. SE accelerators are more common, Plus accelerators don't seem to come up for sale as often.

Accelerator Failure Total Systems Macintosh Plus

That RAM expansion board is removable, and looks like it has already come partway loose. I would fully seat that connector and try again. That board will work without the RAM expansion, it will just use the RAM on the Plus logic board, it is accessed more slowly than the RAM on the expansion. I...

Need Help Identifying Macintosh Plus Upgrade Card

Since no one has made the joke yet, I will... That board is useless, if you send it to me I'll dispose of it for you. I'll even pay the postage. 😂 I don't recognize the board but it looks pretty neat. That 68030 is probably running at 25mhz, based on the 25mhz and 50mhz crystals. Those types...

    Replacement 512k keyboard RJ11 jack

Try cleaning the contacts in the RJ11 socket with a Q tip and IPA. It's not very likely to fix it, but it also costs next to nothing to try.

    Daystar Powercache P33 troubles

You can use an ATX extension cable, there are just some unused pins that hang off the end of the connector.

Tokamac build and programming XC1736 chips

I had my CC sitting out, it was no trouble to test. I removed the accelerator, and confirmed I can successfully boot without the accelerator, with the Presto v3.1 driver. The extension icon has a red X through it at boot, but the system boots fine.

Tokamac build and programming XC1736 chips

I do not, but I can check. You are saying to leave the driver, remove the card, and see what happens on boot?

    Mac IIsi - No color

When you are doing the recap, look carefully for damage from leaking caps. The IIsi is well known as one of the most finicky machines to repair, the leaking electrolyte can wreak havoc on the boards. I have two of them, and I have spent countless hours working on them. I currently have one that...

Tokamac build and programming XC1736 chips

I have a Sonnet Presto LC in my Color Classic, I believe it is the same card. I found that the Presto driver v3.1 was the only one that worked, I think I got it from this Macintosh Garden page. Here's a link to a quick post I did on my CC.

    Newly re-discovered Mac SE

That is a great find, I'm glad the card is working even though software is not correctly reporting the CPU speed! Some diagnostic software can be a bit finicky with accelerators.

    LC3 overclock and custom cooling

I bought this small heatsink/fan combo for my IIsi (Amazon link), it is designed for a Raspberry Pi. I haven't installed it yet, but it looks like it might be a good solution.
