    PowerBook 170 Air

For advice how to properly disassemble the units make sure to fully read the appropriate manuals available at Ifixit (it seems the website sets automatically the language according to the calling URL; please set the web interface to the language of your choice.)

No video on Performa 450 (LC III) after re-cap

Hello, Elfen, I would assume a false seated or incompatible RAM or VRAM unit in the first place, a bad trace in the second place (only after reworking a damaged board), improper ESD protection or applying excessive heat to solenoids during service only in the third place. This third, less likely...

LC III+ is downgraded to 25MHz?

The LCIII also sports a socket for an 68882 co-processor. I got one for free from a dead PowerBook daughter board (it fits the socket after cautiously unsoldering the FPU from the PB's daughter board). After clocking the LCIII to 33 MHz the case plastics of this 68882 melted. I glued a heat sink...

Is there a 68K mac With PDS and NUBUS slots??

Please keep in mind the Apple IIe card will solely be operational in 24 bit addressing mode of the host Mac's operation system! In the Wikipedia article on the Apple IIe card is a list of official compatible Macintosh computers. _If_ the host Mac supports 24 bit addressing you might be forced to...

How many VRAM SIMMs does the LC 475 need?

The LC 475 can be operational without VRAM modules. Please look at my other post.

No video on Performa 450 (LC III) after re-cap

Once I configured a LC 475 as a print server, accessible from my PowerBook via LocalTalk. After setting everything on the LC 475 to work without any user interaction it was stuffed away without any keyboard, mouse and display attached. Later I noticed you even could remove the VRAM modules and...

Troubleshooting Spare Hard Drives for LC III

Consider to upgrade to a flash memory card to SCSI adapter. Some options are ready available of you are willing to spend around USD 100. Such solution will provide a noiseless drive which might even give maximum possible speed. Please also have a look at this project.

    Capturing screen video.

Consider to try the screen capture software Snapz Pro from Ambrosia Software. Versions for Mac OS 9 should be available on request, still. Version 2.0 with QuickTime Movie capture will be sufficient for your computer (Snapz Pro _without_ »X«, of course).

Dual boot OSX - NetBSD on a Powerbook ?

As for NetBSD I can not tell, but once I set up a PowerBook G4 to boot alternatively into Mac OS in two different flavours and into Yellow Dog Linux (triple boot). Any of the three installations worked fine and stable. I only ditched the setup because I simply had no use for it after some testing.

    OSX & SCSI

Thank you for pointing out those details regarding ROM booting support vs. SCSI driver support in combination with XPostFacto. However, I found the SCSI support in 10.2 to be mediocre to non existent. Drives might mount but I never managed to use any of my SCSI scanners with 10.2 on a beige G3...

    OSX & SCSI

If an SCSI drive works with Mac OS 9.2 and not with 10.2, xpostfacto could do the trick. With 9.2 as a helper disk on the internal IDE (consider to use a small flash drive) any drive that mounts under 9.2 should do as a 10.2 boot drive. I tried this successfully with 10.2 on an externally...

Office Suite for PowerBook 180c Recommendations?

Consider to try RagTime 3.2. This is a fully integrated office solution, including a word processor, a quite capable layout module with basic vector drawing tools, and a spreadsheet module with data visualisation. I produced several large documents using RagTime 3.2 on a PowerBook 180 with...

Making an OS 9 install as up to date as possible

And here is some additional information regarding the update procedure of Mac OS 9 on a PPC with Sonnet G3 upgrade (here: PM 7200), I stumbled across the following text clip that was copied from another forum a couple of years ago. I can not confirm the suggested update path to be successful...

    SE via Serial to PC

    Beige G3 running 10.2

A major reason to keep a beige G3 operational might be to have a unit that will be able connect to nearly any other computer Apple made. It may sport RS422, ADB, USB, FireWire, SCSI, IDE, SATA, Ethernet, audio and video in and out, internal ZIP drive, Floppy Disk, CD/DVD read and write...

    I've broken my Titanium :(((
