    SE No Display :(

Something in the analog board died. I doubt it was the powersupply since nothing changed when you replaced it. Probably needs to be recapped. I notice that once in a long while my SE will do that jittery screen thing. Usually only for a few seconds. Sometimes it would happen when I insert a...

    Local Talk ?

I believe you need a LocalTalk adapter. I don't know much about this as I never really tried. I recall way back 10+ years ago actually trying just a serial cable between two Macintoshes. It didn't work. So yeah pretty sure it's not as simple as connecting them directly via a serial cable. Some...

    Early 128k 512k analog board(s) repair

I'm seeing the entire analog board on eBay for slightly more then that. Better to just pick that up instead. There's only one listing for it though, so you better hurry. :p The rest are way overpriced and you can find entire units for the prices they have for them. :p

    Macintosh Plus

Not sure about the motherboard, but I've heard the analog boards are getting flaky in those Plus and older machines. Analog board may need to be recapped. May save you the trouble when it inevitably does get sick with something. ;)

    Apple Older Software Downloads

Has anyone ever mirrored or has a copy of MacMovies that this guy had posted awhile back? https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/10261-video-playback-on-plusclassic/page-3&do=findComment&comment=110024 Unfortunately the site he hosted it on is dead (and it's robots.txt file...

Cant get SCSI2SD to boot Mac Plus

Have you tried giving Lido a go? Give it a full repartition and format. Lido takes care of the drivers too so that might fix the issue if the driver partition is messed up somehow.

    Avatar Shark Drive

If you're lucky it will be a situation similar to the those external SuperDisk drives. The original model appears to just be a IDE drive with an adapter board similar to what you found in that photo. The cable itself provides the conversion logic to convert it from IDE to USB. Not sure about...

External Hard Drive for a Mac 512ke

If it's making more noise then it should it could either be bearings or more likely probably the heads crashed. You won't be able to "open it up" and replace the drive with a SCSI drive. The 128k/512k did not have SCSI ports. The hard-drives at the time connected to the external floppy port...

Just acquired a Macintosh SE. Some questions I have...

Thanks! I ended up finding it on some site called MacGUI. There was two versions I found. One was an extension. Didn't really get that to work. But the second one went with the same name but with "v4.02" specified as it's version. Seems to be a seperate program from the other one I found. This...

Just acquired a Macintosh SE. Some questions I have...

Noticed this from a recent eBay listing of a Macintosh SE: It appears to have a "wallpaper" set. However "Desktop Patterns" is the only Control Panel I know that can place graphics on the background (beyond basic patterns from the General Settings control panel) and it won't work on an SE (I...

Small black material-like pad came out of the 400k drive

Aside from being a bit noisy, I doubt much harm would come from a missing platter pad. :p

    PowerBook 150

Looks like the battery hasn't died to the point of ceasing to work at all. So you might have a easier time replacing the dead cells. For completely dead batteries, I hear you have to clear the internal eeprom data of the battery controller as the battery will tell the computer it's dead even...

Just acquired a Macintosh SE. Some questions I have...

Ok came too late to edit so sorry about the double post. Finally got my System 7 sound to work on the SE. Turns out the SE was being picky. It has to be 8-bit 22khz Mono and I had to copy over a "alis" resource from an existing system sound using ResEdit. (though I'm not sure if that was...

    Apache's start at Macintosh collecting....

FloppyEmu sounds like something I'd want to use with a Plus or a 512k. But if I ended up going for a MicroSD card solution, SCSI2SD is definitely something I will consider. It all depends on what I got left over after I eventually get the SE/30 and if the SE/30 has a hard-drive. If it doesn't...

Just acquired a Macintosh SE. Some questions I have...

lol. I did not think to check the Quicktime software. I ran MoviePlayer (it would likely not run on an SE do to lack of color quickdraw) and it does support wave files. But I used AIFF anyways as I had already converted the file to that. Looks like I now have a "System 7 Sound" which is exactly...

    Cleaning Teardrop Mice

lol. My wedge shaped Mouse I just got had some minor black smudges on the top. That came right off when I used the rough side of my dish sponge. Just moistened with water and used light scrubbing. Came right off and it's clean with no damage to the plastic. The sponge I used is not strong enough...

Just acquired a Macintosh SE. Some questions I have...

Ok, my Macintosh SE is up and running now with a mouse, hard-drive, and a scsi zip drive I snagged off eBay for a cool $14 shipped. Aside from not having a PRAM battery for the thing yet (I have removed the Maxwell time bomb a few weeks ago. :p ), there are no issues I'm having. I created a...

System Software Install Issue on Mac Classic II

I recently posted a thread in the conquests thread. It shows me booting a Macintosh SE off a zip disk. So you can definitely use one as your boot drive. Though mine now has a working hard-drive so that's what I use to boot it. The bootable zip disk I made has verious versions of MacOS installers...

    Apache's start at Macintosh collecting....

Figured I would wait till I had a complete system before posting this thread. My first post in this forum was in the compact mac section regarding a Macintosh SE. Now that the system is complete with a keyboard, mouse, hard-drive + other accessories, I can now show it off here. I later plan on...

System Software Install Issue on Mac Classic II

Don't think I've read that one. My main reason for getting back into vintage macs is simply because I used to use them when I as a child, so sentimental reasons. :p
