allright, when i open it up are there the typical g5 leds to look for on the logic board... or is there no such thing on the isight models?
and when the gpu indeed HAS failed, it does not bong because of the 'post check' not being able to see the GPU correctly right?
is there a safe way to...
So i was given an iMac G5 iSight 20inch model for free by the stepdad of my girlfriend.
Model was made in 2005, only has the 512mb of logic board ram, no ram was added in the single slot.
He did not know what exactly was wrong with it but he could not get it to start... i did not have time yet...
Oh my god, away for a few days and BAM, Lots of information!
I have the end of the drive terminated with a pass though terminator!!
just tried it out with just connecting the terminator between the cable coming prom the plus and the drive connection, leaving open the port for the next device...
Thanks for your very complete answers guys!
I am aware that the plus does not have the SCSI standard onboard because the standard released later, i think that can very much be one of the causes.
I'm going to try to format one disk on a plus itself. problem is that even when i boot from a...
also read that somewhere...
problem is, my classic boots right off it using ID 0 and my plus locks right up,
tried settings the id to for example 4, it shows the right ID on the splash screen using the classic as well as the plus... but the plus still freezes.
at least i know the id selector...
Okay... yet another problem with my macintosh pluses. lets see if this is fixable too!
So i'm very new to the scsi system of connecting external drives.
i bought a new SyQuest drive in scsi enclosure for my macintoshes, it came with 11 new 88mb disks.
set up the system to a mac classic and...
Guys! Goooood news!
Finally decided to take it easy and started working on the analog board of the 'broken' plus.
resoldered some connections that looked very bad, resoldered the power connector, the switch and the total connection to the logic board.
*bong* -> black screen with solid disk...
Problem is that the focus really changes according to the brightness levels... it is not a matter of not being able to see that its not in focus,
its really quite a drastic change...
0-90% of the brightness potentiometer = pin sharp.
90-100% = blurry mess.
Quite weird right?
Thanks for the...
I'm going to swap the logic boards, that's a sensible idea.
maybe even swap ram SIMMS and setting the '256k'-memory resistor in the right value (soldered or clipped) to see if the system freeze is caused by bad ram.
Another problems i have seen on my working plus that i would love to have...
Thanks a lot for the info on the Syquest drives!
i'm thinking of buying one in the original external enclosure, with 10x 88mb disks new in packaging for 20 euro's incl. shipping...
sound like quite a good deal to me since we almost have no zip or jaz drives for sale here... just a lot of hp...
My classic has the original Rear Bucket with the hole+cover for the microphone jack.
it has a 'stickered' label and on that it says it was made in ireland.
Results of the measurements at the FDD connector:
pin 5 -12.23
6 4.97
7 12.29
8 12.29
Grounded at pin 1.
look perfectly fine to me. off course this is without anything actually connected to the port.
logic board was connected, chimed.
so the restarting really only looks like a bad...
Suspected a ram issue as well.
The ram resistor was the first thing to catch my attention. The resistor was cut, then soldered back to the lead.
Then checked the ram which was indeed 2x 256k + 2x 256k = 1mb.
i want to reflow and measure the analog board as well as suggested.
but as i said...
I recently bought a fully working macintosh plus.
with that, another macintosh plus came in ok cosmetic condition but the owner said it wouldn't boot...
when i plugged it in and flicked the switch, it chimed normally, showed the memory check diagonal lines and then:
it showed the blinking...
That is pretty weird.. you all talk about drilling a hole next to the ADB port for sound in...
but on my Classic... there is already a hole there, including the microphone logo.
it is just covered with a little plastic cap.
That means they used the same bucket for the later classic I and...
I have come across almost the exact same problem om my classic a few days back...
except that it very very rarely comes up by itself without the machine actually reading from the hdd or floppy.
it stays on for like 3 seconds and then everything is good again.
i have NOT yet recapped the...
yes i have also tried that too. forgot to mention it.
even saw a special key combo which you had to hold before double clicking it...
the weird thing for me is that unblessing and reblessing the current active software on the smaller hdd works like a charm.
as soon as you drag the system...
