Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Even if you did try it, the likelyhood of breaking it is next to nil. You would be wiring the composite output right up to its place on the DA-15 connector, the IIgs monitor expects the computer to give that signal, so it just simply ignores it (probably by leaving it N/C)
It would be rather difficult to plug the IIgs' DA-15 video connector into the IIc's composite video port. Nevertheless, there *IS* a composite pin on the DA-15 connector, that in some *really* weird roundabout way could be used to make an adaptor of sorts, and even then I doubt that the IIgs...
I wasn't referring to the MacTV, I was referring to the Quadra 630 family, on which you CAN watch TV and write a text document at the same time. It's VERY cramped on 640x480 though.
Just a little update here, I scared up some S-Video and ADB cables, and started assembling my test circuit on my solderless breadboard.
It probably won't be until tomorrow that I run the test, but I'm getting there. This will tell me if the idea of a passively switched ADB data line will work.
Nice! I'm not particularly a fan of hot-melt for holding everything together, but it looks like you did a good job with it!
After logging in, how usuable is the desktop?
Yeah.
Thanks to Bolle for inspecting an 800, we have 1/3 of the systems inspected now.
Centris 650 owners, please speak up!
Quadra 650 owners, please speak up!
It 'works' to watch TV and use the computer at the same time on my 638CD, but, at 640x480 resolution (if you want any more than 8-bit color), it is cramped to try to watch the video screen while doing something else.
You can't argue with 24-bit onboard video. A/UX is a plus, but, I find that NetBSD is better, and if you want to run your mac programs, please just run them in SSW.
Here's a link to the rules, but to be honest, I doubt very many people read them anyway.
What an interesting problem, it's good that you cleaned the drive heads and lubricated the slide mechanism.
One thing interesting I noted while watching your video was that you got the single vs double...
Of course it's not required, but thought it was worth mentioning, I find it easier to read, especially when using GS/OS.
Also of note is that if you don't have a clock battery, your IIgs won't save your control panel settings.
I have always liked pizza boxes. The design just appeals to me for some reason. For a few years I had my desktop placed on the side, so the PCIe slots were vertical rather than horizontal, I kinda liked that. A true pizza box case would be low profile though.
I'm glad its all working out.
I believe the "unknown drive" problem is due to it not liking a partition on the disk. (But as you mentioned it still works fine with that) The 4GB 7,200RPM disk in my SE/30 currently has that problem, it's a little bit annoying to have to always click cancel or...
It's not all that weird and/or surprising that HD SC Setup 7.5.3 makes 4GB partitions. HD SC Setup 7.3.5 came out after SCSI Manager 4.3 and System 7.5. In that configuration 4GB partitions will work; 7.1 doesn't work with 4GB partitions.
If you want to use the entire space of the card, make...
So many confusing names!
Yes, make sure you have the 25MHz Centris 650 for this test.
A Quadra 650 would be good for comparison, but, I have a feeling it will be identical to the 800, as both are now at 33MHz.
The Quadra 700 is the Quadra 700, AKA JurassicMac [:o)] ]'>
The two NuBus slots in the 700 are nice to have, if you have NuBus cards that is.
The benefits of 2MB of VRAM in the 700 are also apparent too.
The Q605 is surely a nice little pizza box though. With full 040 the 605 and 700 will...
