Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
very interesting to learn that Tanzania machines can boot directly off the CPU in the L2 cache slot without the need for any 3rd party software, thats pretty awesome for anyone who wants to run a more obscure OS on their 4400 or OS X which cant use an L2 cache CPU card otherwise
hypothetically...
Sawtooth, is the code name for the PowerMac3,1 first Generation Powermac G4 with AGP graphics, us Apple computer nerds/hobbiests etc use it to refer to that machine since "PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics)" can be a bit ambigious as apart from the Yikes!, every PowerMac G4 generation has AGP graphics...
very interesting results! indeed as I understand it, the Mach5 motherboards and CPU cards use some extra pins on the CPU connector that are not used on older motherboards, so you will want to stick with Kansas motherboards for playing with Mach5 cards
again its strange to see the IBM Mach5...
Been doing a bit of internet sleuthing recently mainly to figure out the whole mystery of the PowerBook 1400 and the PowerBook PowerPC upgrade card that you can read about in @Daniël's BGA thread
but while doing that, I did start to wonder just where *did* all the IBM PDF's go? thankfully for...
the 5500/6500/TAM are all based on the same gazelle motherboard, so they really do use the same ROM's in this case :)
I swear there is another thread on here about making a 6500/5500 play the TAM chime and that yeah its set by some resistors, but I think by the computer chassis itself, IE you...
thats good to know :) quickly reading back through the thread again, if I am reading things correctly you have managed to design things such that you can put both types of connectors and have 1 universal board that can be swapped between both G3 Blue and White's as well as Sawtooth's (Sawteeth...
Im just wondering does this need any special hardware to use? say if you want to fit one to a machine that did not come with optioned with a modem in the first place, (or a machine that you removed the modem from for giggles years ago *looks at my sawtooth* ) I know the connector on the...
Quick question, regarding this
has anyone tried this with an an actual PPC740L as per the thread title? I ask because the only refrence to what G3 740 CPU has been used is this comment from a few years back
but if one checks the datahseets, only the PPC740L supports a 32 bit 60x databus, the...
Cache is indeed 3.3V on these cards sadly, I say, sadly, as it means the 7410 cannot be used on these boards, which is a shame, as not only is the 7410 a bit easier to acquire/work with (a 7400 you pretty much have to buy an old Apple CPU card to harvest it off of, and then faff about reballing...
actually ignore me there slightly! I just checked Mac tracker and I see they where selling the 631 into July 1995! did not realise they where selling 68K macs so late! at the same time you could get a 631 you could get a PCI based 9500!
I think so, if I am reading things right its got a date code of 11th week 1995, I wonder what its story is, given its still a 68LC040, and not something like an upgrade to a full fat 68040, neat find :)
thats very curious! this reminds me my PowerMac G4 Dual 1Ghz Quicksilver, who's L3 cache will not show up for love-nor-money, (I have been meaning to investigate that one further)
unless for whatever reason PowerLogix did not use standard Apple CPU descriptor methods*, then it should just work...
you should not need any sort of Cache enabler for that CPU, if it indeed uses a 7455, then as as long as your on the latest BootROM for your G4 cube 4.1.9 IIRC, then it should just work OOB
so double check your BootROM version I would say
also you have checked system profiler right? (I would...
Perhaps im mistaken and it turns out that IBM Mach5 604EV's use a different PVR, but are you sure thats a 604ev/Mach5 CPU?
I ask the CPU type part of the PVR (Processor Version Register) given as "cpu-version" in your screenshots is listed there 0009 is that of a regular 604e CPU, my Own...
I sadly dont have anything helpful to add regarding the diagnosis other then it might be worth going over the PCB's and checking for cracks in the PCB's themselves, often when items like this get shipped because they are so heavy and have heavy components mounted on said PCB's, the shocks...
Yeah I see that :) but what I mean is, there where 2 distinct revisions of the whole G3 Blue and white Machine, the Rev A machines and the Rev B machines, and these Rev B machines had revised motherboards (and other different things, for example Rev B G3 blue and whites have a different hard...
nvm ignore this bit, although the older varient is mentioned here and there, if you scroll down to the BOM it calls for the later -402, variant, so this is indeed schematics for the Rev C motherboard used in the Revision B G3 Blue and white :)
and this little snippet is quite interesting...
Oh thats Awesome! theres very few schematics out there for the later Apple desktops like this! already been quite interesting to go through at a first pass, for example there is a brief mention of the "Max" CPU on the VRM VID settings, which of course, Max being the code name for the G4 CPU, so...
