Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

He’s the grim-faced fella the pit boss sends in after Rudy helps you defraud the casino!

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

You were right about the performance difference using Mini vMac on a wired connection instead of wireless. I just tried it with an AirTalk-connected SE/30 and got speeds of 135 Kbps. Before I was seeing around 5-15 Kbps. Things just got a lot more exciting! Thanks for the tip, @cheesestraws.

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

My rainbow set arrived yesterday and I’ve been playing around with them ever since. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my Orbi mesh network is unfit for the task, so I set up a dedicated wifi network with an ancient Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT. I joined a pair of AirTalks to this network and...

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

Yes, it appears they do, but the controls for it are unavailable when operating in AP mode. I will try switching to router mode and see if that helps. Hopefully it does not blow up my network! The Orbi is an astonishingly hostile example of consumer electronics.

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

I ordered a rainbow set and look forward to their arrival, but I just learned something about our home network that has put a serious damper on my enthusiasm. Our setup is an Orbi mesh system running in AP mode with a wired backhaul between two units. According to some testing I just performed...

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

I look forward to trying AirTalk with this multiplayer classic I preserved on the Macintosh Garden: http://macintoshgarden.org/games/tron-multiplayer It’s frenzied mayhem with the right number of players, around 3–4.

I will take a rainbow set! They will be going to the US, so shipping, tax, and customs be damned. These things look amazing.

Best games/apps to showcase B&W mac?

I don’t recommend games where the bitmaps originated elsewhere and were ported lazily to the Mac. Not good showcases. Cosmic Osmo, The Manhole, and Spelunx and the Caves of Mr. Seudo all have superb 1-bit artwork. Cyan made their own halftone patterns, which blend smoothly into one another. I...

Best way to archive vintage Mac floppies & CD's to images

That makes two of us! I shared my flux image of MacWars with Morris, too. Can you share your Ultima III image with me? I picked up a functioning CIB on eBay a few years ago and killed my disk trying to archive it. The instructions in the box include a warning that trying to copy the game will...
