The one keyboard to rule them all

I was able to get the pcb for the keyboard done, so I can now start working on the case. I am leaving the other boards modular so that I can replace them individually when I let the magic smoke out.

The one keyboard to rule them all

coming back to the design, I realized that putting all the logic into the one micro controller was a bit above my head. Then I got the idea to augment my skills using fiverr where I met a nice Kenyan man who seemed affordable. After some discussion and many compromises later, I got a $600...

    Christmas LAN party preparation

These are all great suggestions! Thank you! I got some phone net adapters, and have plenty of computers, but I am short on keyboards and mice currently. Hopefully I can score another wombat or similar soon because I don't think I will have my keyboard I am working on anywhere near done in...

The one keyboard to rule them all

I need to add the polyfuses yet, but here is what I have so far. I think I have it right, but the power circuit on the right should let the pi pico know which program to run. So long as this schematic works, I should be able to do whatever I need in software. To free up the the GPIO pins, I...

The one keyboard to rule them all

This is very helpful! I am inexperienced when it comes to pcb design and have been mostly a high-powered diy guy. I was planning on just sending the 5 volt straight in, but mentioning the polyfuses makes me think that may be a bad idea. How do I figure out how bad of an idea that is before...

The one keyboard to rule them all

Using the CH334U that @cheesestraws mentioned I think will work with some modification to my plans. The Pico will be bus powered and all buses use 5 volt. What I will do is use diodes so each bus can power the Pico, but it won't back-feed into the other outputs. I will use two GPIO pins to...

The one keyboard to rule them all

This does look very straight forward! When it is in ADB mode, I will need to have the USB port on the pico read the USB devices, where as when it is in USB mode I will need to have it be a HID device. Depending on how cheap these are, I may just make two separate USB circuits and depending on...

The one keyboard to rule them all

@bigmessowires, is there any way I can rope you into this project? I love my Wombat and want to build it into a keyboard.

The one keyboard to rule them all

I have done some more tinkering and learning about custom keyboards. To start I wanted to come up with a requirement list. USB Mouse Input ADB Output for Mac SE to B&W PowerMac G3 USB Output RJ9 Output for Mac 128k to Mac Plus Start button for ADB and USB needs to be on the keyboard Similar...

The one keyboard to rule them all

I am getting ready for an old school network party for my employees at the end of the year. I am finding myself in a pinch point I have not experienced before - I do not have enough keyboards and mice. I do have two Wombats, and I love them. This got me thinking though, it would be cool to...

    Christmas LAN party preparation

Hey everyone, I need some help figuring out how to make this happen. This year for my Christmas party at work, I want to setup a Net Trek and Wagon Trail 1848 network game between my IIci, Mac SE, Mac Classic, and Mac Color Classic. I know I will need to do the serial local talk, but my...

    IIcx no boot

what wire do you use for a bodge? I was thinking of pulling apart a cat 6 cable, but that seems like way more copper than is needed.

    IIcx no boot

I got my dad's old IIcx and have been trying to bring it back to life. I re-capped and there was a fair amount of goo near the capacitors, but no battery bomb. I have de-soldered and cleaned and re-soldered anything near the caps, but it's not working. After getting my multi meter out, I am...

    IIci/IIci/IIcx trouble

I started to look at the traces and realized that there is some damage to the board. It looks like scrapes as if it was in a big scrap pile or something. I am going to go ahead and solder dip sockets in place of the ROMs and then I can move them over and try them out. If they don't work, I...

    IIci/IIci/IIcx trouble

Yes, W1 is present, though I rotated the jumber to make the BMOW sim work. Good point on the traces. Luckily I have the reloaded board already, so if they traces are bad, that will solve itself.
