Blue Tooth, for the Apple II

Kinda annoying that there are USB and IDE cards for the Apple II and none for Nubus Macs.

    Capacitor replacement

I think it's better to use the types of tools the cellphone repair guys use. These are the ones with minute jets of superheated air, instead of the the regular pencil types (unless it's an ultra pencil type.)

    pci cards

If that's a PCI PC compatibility card, forget about running it in a beige G3. It will work but for some reason, it's going to slow down the host Mac. These are best in the earlier PCI Macs.

    Quadra 840AV

Yep. Fastest 68040 and fastest NuBus implementation. It would be sweet if you could find a Radius SpigotProAV to do codec work for the video side. You can find the driver for that at http://www.bug.co.jp a company that bought up Radius' old stocks and wrote better drivers.

    350mb dosent go very far!

Or get an Acard SCSI IDE bridge and use any available IDE drive up to 2 Terabytes. That should be plenty of MP3s. Or find a SCSI card reader and a bunch of memory cards (suitable for your card reader) to stuff your MP3s. Honestly, though, I don't think playing MP3s is the best use of a Quadra...

    Power Mac 6500/250...

Nice machine, but ditch the GeoPort Modem. Replace it with a Comm Slot II Ethernet Card for broadband and use an external 56K modem. Most standard modems should work. The trick is to find a hardware handshaking modem cable. Can anyone say if a USB Modem will work with this puppy? Consider...

    newer G3

Newer made two. There was only one Sonnet form factor that fit the 6100/7100/8100. Newer had a small form factor (just like the Sonnet's) for 6100s, and a larger one for the 7100/8100

Beige G3 motherboard in 8600 case?

There are lots of places to add extra drives in a Desktop G3: -Where the Zip drive is and above that (make a special bracket) -Where the floppy drive is, another Optical drive can be placed there if the front of the case is modified. You'd switch to a USB floppy since the internal floppy...

    LC Opinions

That link is a picture of a P/LC475. The Quadra 605 has Feets and a flat top, the LC has a slanted top. The boards are identical except for one resistor which is in a different place in the Quadra 605 in order to give a different Gestalt ID (used by software installers to determine the machine...

    newer G3

I think what everyone is referring to, but unable to describe, is the metal angle frame bracket. The G3 accelerator replaces the right angle circuit board PDS adaptor, but it still needs a frame to hold the card in place. You can use the one that came with a DOS card if you remove one stud on...

A Daystar card in a Centris 660 av

I looks like a 68040 accelerator for 68040 PDS Macs. I've seen this before but was wondeirng if the following would work: On a PPC 6100, there is the right angle adaptor for the DOS card which presents a Quadra PDS to the DOS card. Could this accelerator be used in a PPC 6100 with a DOS card...

    Radius Rockets

Tried it on the following: 7100, 8100. Configs: both have max ram (136MB, 264MB). * 8.1 is the highest system you'll be able to run on the host mac. * It doesn't work if there is a G3 accelerator in your host Mac. * You need to find RocketWare (it's in the macdrivers yahoogroup) Rocket...

    Quadra 800 Qusetion

I would say more RAM. 52Mb is enough, but with the low prices of RAM, and being able to run more stuff with VM off, I'd say go for the maximum! (that would be 136 MB)

Why Was The 68030 Ignored By Game Companies ?

During that era (late-1980s) of personal computers, PCs had the advantage of being bootable in lightning fast DOS. Macs had the Mac OS, and the game had to run on that, so there were some limitations as to performance. Also, most of the Macs at that time were black and white compacts. Apple...

    Casemod: PPC 8500

I wonder if I can do that to my 8100/110. Time to break out the spray cans.

    Mac 68K Speedup tips here

A slotless cache card fits in between the 68040 socket and the 68040 Chip. You'll end up with a processor that looks a like the G3 with some chips sticking out the side of the heatsink. Adds 128K of 68040 L2 cache (an 040 feature that is officially unimplemented. Thanks, Apple.). It's very...

    Mac 68K Speedup tips here

yep. System 6, System 7.x, and MacTCP work fine for me behind a router with a fixed LAN IP address for the 68K Mac. I've done this with an SE/30, Mac IIci, and Quadra 605, 650, 700, and 800. These machines have been used for LAN file storage, LAN DNS, LAN e-Mail, LAN Intranet, etc. You'd...

    DiiMOCache 50mhz Accelerator

If the card doesn't say SE/30 or IIsi, it is designed for the IIci PDS. The connectors are identical but incompatible. Plugging a IIci card into an SE/30 or IIsi will ruin the computer, or the card, or both. If it is for a IIci, there shouldbe an adaptor that you can find.

Put in more memory and then problem. SE/30

AFAIK, 8MB 30-pin SIMMs don't work on an SE/30 and a few other 030 macs as well. They do work on Quadra 700, Quadra 900, and 950

    Localtalk cable?

Phonenet uses only two wires, however, it uses the two OUTER wires, which are not present in two-wire phone cable. Phonenet did make two wire cable which conected to the outer contacts. But, yep, to be safe, use 4-wire RJ-11 cables.
