Let us mourn the loss of an original 128k

I believe one of the reasons Jobs was fired is because of his insistence that the Mac remain closed, and not expandable. Only after his departure did Apple work on the "OPN MAC" of Jean Louis Gassee. That was the custom plate number on his car.

    Power supply for LC2

the LC power supply is so simple. You can even use a hard drive power supply if you've wired it properly. There's no need to use an AT/ATX power supply. All the board needs is a regulated 5V rail, a 12V rail, and ground. There's no trickle current and soft power on those pizza boxes.

    Performa 638CD Video?

Have you checked the PRAM battery? There's no video on that machine if the PRAM batt is dead. You'll need to get an adaptor. The Quadra 630 supports only 640x480, 800x600, and 832x624 video modes and does not support the portrait monitor. This I find strange, since its predecessor, the...

Connecting Powerbook 150 to a PC?

    Beige G3 bootable from SCSI??

There's only one SCSI Bus on the Beige G3 that has both internal and external connectors. It runs at 5MBps. You may be confusing it with the PCI Power Macs all of which, except the 7200 had two busses: a 10MBps Internal Bus, and a 5MBps Internal/External Bus. Although the IDE Bus claims to...

    Dead HD20

Hahaha. It sounds like something I would do. I have a Rodime too (only the case remains), and a GCC HD20 Hyperdrive. Nice cases. Some later cases, notably the Micronet ones and Mass Micro ones now have IDE drives with either USB or SCSI bridges depending on their use.

Let us mourn the loss of an original 128k

I have an original Mac 128K that has an accelerator with 4MB of RAM. I think its a Brainstorm accelerator that's soldered onto the original processor. It looks like its an old upgrade installed in the 1980s.

    LPT and COM ports

YOu shouldn't use the parallel port, since the Mac port is also a serial port. Technically, Mac serial ports are RS-422 Serial ports and PC's have RS-232 serial ports. Some minor differences, but easily connected. That's why it should be serial to serial connection, not Serial to Parallel.

    Performa 638CD Video?

If there's a TV Tuner Input, then the machine should also have the AV input board. If you're very lucky, it may even have the Quadra MPEG Decoder board. Woohoo...

    What is cfm-68k?

Make sure you get 4.0! Earlier version cause corruption of the hard drive's data. It's needed for 7.6.1 and 7.5.x, but not bundled with them. You'll get it if you update your Laserwriter version to the last latest for your System. It's built into the OS in 8.x and up, if the CFM extension is...

    Radius Rockets

Hmm, that's interesting. Under 7.1.x thread manager is an extension (v2.1.3), but I haven't tried patching it into the system with Res Edit. the reason I had it hooked up (or tried to) was because I wanted to run a scanner with some batch processing while using the 7100 for other things. When...

To clip or not to clip - MacII PRAM batteries

The Tadiran Mothership. Any of the Tadiran (I've also seen some National Panasonic Branded ones) depicted here make good substitutes. Just clip off the leads and use them as posts. Remove battery terminal ends from the plastic holders, then with some tweaking, you'll be able to socket them...

    Quadra 630

It depends on what its got. From the looks of it it doesn't have much. These are nice to have bundled with it because they can be difficult to find, or expensive to purchase as add-ons later on. Cool stuff to have in a Quadra 630 are (in some order of importance): 1) CommSlot Ethernet Card...

Most common upgrades for an SE?

A high capacity IDE drive in a 68000 Mac? Interesting concept. With the maximum partition size for System 6 around 2GB, how many partitions would you need for a 40GB drive? I would think that to be more productive, it might make more sense to get a much faster mac: like an 040 Mac. But to...
