Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I managed to pick it up for $200 shipped but it has some yellowing and no box or manuals. I'm glad to even have found it. It's funny that the previous owner tried to warn me that it's not a very good display because of the contrast. I replied that I knew about that being an issue and it was...
Try it a couple of times and see if you get further. The big issue is: do you need to do a Low Level Format that re-writes the track and sector markers as the SunRem controller expects. If you have to do this, you may be out of luck.
Here's an excerpt of the "Apple Lisa/Macintosh XL...
Actually, if he buys another MFM drive, I think we can both bet that it won't be formatted for a Mac XL so since the current hard drive is "no good" on the Lisa, it's worth a shot just to see if the drive is good at all. If it can be low level formatted, than it's like putting in another MFM...
Do you happen to have an old 8088 computer (like an IBM PC XT) that can use the MFM drive? Yo might try to low level format it there and, at least, see if it's recognized. I'm not sure if this will screw up the possible use in the Lisa but at lease you know if it works.
Sun Remarketing also had a 10mb or 20mb drive that was MFM based but had a custom controller. I have one but it works and I don't know how to format that drive. I don't think you can use BLU or an Apple created tool. Maybe MacWorks XL can do it because it's from Sun Rem. Again, I don't...
Thanks bigmessowires. Now I found it.
Macintosh Garden has MS-BASIC 1.00, 2.00 and 3.0 + Basic Compiler 1.0 here: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/microsoft-basic
Macintosh Garden has a MacBASIC .335 and 1.0 here: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macbasic
I'll have to check them out.
What I...
I think I have a disk with some early versions of BASIC for the Mac on them but it's hard to search using "Mac" and BASIC" on Google to do some research. I have a 400k disk that has both on it.
What is the earliest version of MS-Basic for the Mac?
What versions are available for MacBASIC? I...
You need to step back into 1984 and then look at your Mac 128k from a different lens and then think about what you have. The Mac 128k is a door stop today and is totally underwhelming... by today's standards. It's rich history is why you buy them. Being able to try out the software that was...
Bingo! It also came with a System Saver (that I promptly forgot about). The system also came with 10 or 20 original Apple blank floppy disks that are used and have software on them. I'll have to check that out this evening. To 3583Bytes point, I'll see what'd there.
I got my Mac 128k today. I was hoping it was fairly complete as discussed in another thread here recently: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/24452-original-macintosh-128k-box-contents/
Well, here's a pic of what came.
You can see something that I haven't seen before, the box for...
I did mess around with mine by trying to hook up a SCSI hard drive and even trying to use it as a SCSI device to read it but didn't get anywhere. After some research,. I did take a quick look around for a vintage nCube server and Oracle Media Server software (which is what they used) but came...
Thanks Unity.
I looked in the Macintosh manual and didn't see a "What's Included" section that you sometimes see in the user manual. Once I searched for "packing list", I came up with a thread here...
I'm in the process of trying to acquire a boxed original Mac 128k and was wondering what's supposed to be in the box. I saw this web page http://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/mac/vintage-macintosh-128k-computer-unboxed-3498401/that has a picture of the alleged contents but the disk holder is wrong...
The HyperDrive manual came today. What a great manual! It was printed in 1984 and also came with an inserted addendum. Included in the manual was the default system password. To give some background, I was asked for the system password to format the entire disk. I tried "SYSTEM" and...
I was thinking about doing that because the disk is MFM but it is a bit of a pain to have to set up to do that so I will wait before tying something else. For now the drive works completely fine as long a I don't need to format it. If it should become unreadable, it will probably corrupt where...
So after much screwing around, I was able to delete the password protected "Startup" drawer. Removing this stopped the Mac from booting to a "sad mac".
I tried everything to get Macsbug to work and I did find a version that seemed to work but would go directly to the Macsbug prompt and...
