Hey everyone,
I'm having some odd issues with a Classic that I recently recapped the logic board. I have a sneaking suspicion that the analog is outputting incorrect voltages and I'll need to replace capacitors there too. I'd like to test it first. Can I safely apply power to the board with...
Well, I replaced the speakers by rewiring through the USB amp. That was a royal pain and if I did it again would go the @pcamen route and work from the speakers. Got everything buttoned up, plugged them in to find that the amp doesn't work. I suppose I have a nice prop to sit on a shelf now...
@EvilCapitalist Thank you for the excellent information, I hadn't looked at the prices of lower capacity SSDs in a while, they have gotten very reasonably priced.
Is it possible to split the case on the speaker audio amplifier? It looks like it snaps together but before I go breaking anything...
@TheDoctor I'll report back once I've had a chance to test a few things. There are some inexpensive adapters and plates available. Fitment will be the big concern. It'll be a little while however, I'm budgeting repairs and upgrades for this machine and functional speakers are more important...
Picked up a G4 Cube locally today. The price was too good to pass up. No cracks in the plastic but there are a decent amount of scratches. I haven't decided if I'm going to try polishing or just leave it as is.
Hard drive is loud (I'm going to start looking for a SSD solution) and the...
My brother dug up my old Silhouette trackball (not sure how he ended up with it) and said he'd bring it the next time he's in town. The software is long gone. The trackball has a programmable second button and I'd love to get it back up and running.
This is a long shot I'm sure but does...
I finally worked up the courage to clean, decap and solder in new tantalum capacitors (thank you trag) on my Classic II logic board. It's not the prettiest but it worked!
The case is still pretty dirty and unfortunately it's a little dinged up but the next step is to clean it as best I can. ...
Again, I appreciate all the advice! I'm taking my time with this LC as it's the first recap I've ever done and if successful, not the last. I haven't ordered the rest of the capacitors for the power supply yet so I will definitely pay attention to the physical measurements along with the...
I'll be ordering the rest of the caps for the power supply. Not a drop of water will touch the supply, I'll be doing a cleaning of it with DeoxIT and IPA.
Definitely will be testing traces before I put the effort into soldering new capacitors onto the logic board. I think I may attempt to...
Thank you for the link, I should have done some searching before asking the question!
I did a partial recap of the power supply following the suggestions from maccaps on which to replace. I now get a clicking from the power supply. I’m going to try to do a little more cleaning of that board...
I finally worked up the courage to start desoldering the bad caps on the LC logic board I found at a local electronics recycler.
About an hour later, not a single pad lifted. The board is now drying after being washed in some very diluted soapy water.
This LC didn't power on so I'm going to...
I'm in no rush for the SE so please don't make any special effort.
Right now I'm focused on figuring out which capacitors to order for these two computers.
The place is called Surplus Stuff on Folsom Blvd. in Sacramento. Not the nicest neighborhood, right next door to a flea market.
It's a small store but packed. I snagged the only Mac items I found and left my name and number with the owner. There were a couple Apple Monitor IIIs on the floor...
I had been watching a dual 800k SE on Craigslist for the past couple of weeks and had planned to go and pick it up this weekend. It was about a 100 mile drive so today was the first time I'd have the time to make the trip. Someone snagged it yesterday, fortunately before I made the journey.
I...
