$50 is fair for a IIe and even for a IIc. They are both pretty common machines. Anyone who asks much more than that is banking on the Applemania that swept the hobby after Steve Jobs died to make a killing on common as dirt hardware from people who don't know any better.
Why did Steve Jobs have to be such a jerk when it came to cooling fans? Most of the issues with these things are the result of overheating leading to parts failing.
Most of the "IIfx" machines that you see for sale on ebay are actually upgraded II/IIx machines. You can see in the photos accompanying the listings that the cases have Macintosh II or IIx on the case fronts. A "real" IIfx is harder to find. Upgrading an older machine to a IIfx by swapping...
Taking the keyboard apart will most likely reveal crumbs, dust, hair, and other contaminants that shouldn't be in there. Cleaning all the crap out of the keyboard will go a long way to fixing any issues you may have with keys working sporadically. Oxidized contacts are easier to clean once you...
It's the SE/30 version. And yes, I was only forced offline for a week but been too busy lately to check back in. It was actually when I was going to post about the conquest that I found out about the suspension. Lol.
I conquested an Asante MacCon during my "forced absence" by the mods, so it's a not very recent. I managed to score it for only $85 as opposed to the close to $200 that they normally go for these days. I saw that price and couldn't let it pass.
I have since acquired the main board of the Hyperdrive upgrade, but none of the other parts. I'm still looking for the brackets and a suitable drive to test it with. It also has a 10mhz 68000 chip on it so you get a small performance increase with these, too. It clips on over the 68000 on the...
I bought a 512k with a Hyperdrive label on it that turned out not to have it inside. I didn't pay a lot for it, not even as much as a barebones 512k normally sells for so it wasn't a big loss. I sometimes think people find those labels and slap them on any old machine just to ensure they get...
You know damn well what I mean by "blow up", but in case you really are that dense, I mean burn up other parts on the board that would render it fully or partially non-functional and whether you have more or not is irrelevant. It would be irresponsible to knowingly damage such a rare part...
My problem seems to be finding 128k/512k machines that don't have a Mac Plus board in them. You should consider yourself lucky finding one with a 512k board. At least you don't have to hack up the case or use a Plus bucket for those and can restore them back to original condition without much...
You're a lot braver than I am. I wouldn't have given that board power at all without knowing for damn certain that the whole thing wasn't going to blow up in my face. It's obvious now that the upgrade either isn't working or isn't wired up correctly. I wouldn't risk powering it up again until...
Disappointment! I finally got around to opening this machine and not only DOESN'T it have a Hyperdrive inside, it has a Mac Plus motherboard and the case bucket was hacked to make it fit. :'(
On the bright side, I can restore it using the 512k board that I bought recently with the MacSnap...
I'm still waiting to score an SE/30. There's been some cheap ones on ebay, but all with issues (mainly they needed recapping). I've had to pass on all of them, even the ones that had things like aftermarket network or video cards clearly visible from the back. I've had better luck sourcing cheap...
Oooh, that's a hard drive model. I have one with the internal hard drive and one with dual floppies. The hard drive model also has a MicroMac 68020 accelerator with math co-pro. I have no idea how I managed to get lucky enough to get that. The seller didn't even have it in the description, so he...
