    Netatalk 2.2.7 Released

Thank you so much for all the hard work! I can't wait to be able to just apt install Netatalk again! I remember when it suddenly stopped working and what a nightmare it was figuring out why and having to roll back to the older version. Good times.

Banana Pi BPI M2 Zero drop in replacement for Raspberry Pi Zero for RaSCSI?

The silver lining to the obnoxious Raspberry Pi shortage is that it is forcing an across the board push towards universal Pi compatibility. It looks like a lot of people are working on this right now. Many alternatives offer higher performance specs than Raspberry Pi's. Unfortunately a lot of...

Max ram on Powerbook PDQ 300Mhz (model ID 312 )

Yep 512MB is the actual max RAM for this model. However is is picky about the type of RAM module used. You have to be very careful to find low density RAM

Mac System 7.0.1 and 7.5.3 floppy images

The incompatibility mentioned previously regarding variable speed floppy drives is only the case for 800K Macintosh floppies used with the first generation Macintosh SE and older machines. It is (as far as I know) impossible to write such a disk using a PC without a Kryoflux. Later Mac SEs and...

    Powerbook G3 SCSI interface speed?

My understanding is that ALL external SCSI connectors on Macs are 5MB/s. (or slower on old Macs) The only 10MB/s SCSI are internal on most PCI PowerMacs plus or minus a couple models. I'm playing with my PiSCSI and was wanting to know for benchmarking purposes. I guess I'll have to crack open...

    Powerbook G3 SCSI interface speed?

Yeah I looked all over and couldn't find the tech specs for it. I'm finding conflicting info on Mac SCSI speeds and what they're calling SCSI-2 versus 'fast' SCSI.

    Powerbook G3 SCSI interface speed?

Does anyone definitively know what type of SCSI the Powerbook G3's use and how fast it is? I'm guessing narrow SCSI-2 at around 5MBps?

Your MacX (or other 68k X11 sever) experiences

Hm... No one? I guess I know what my next retro Mac project is now - Adventures with X11 on a Mac! I couldn't find much online about this except a couple of screenshots which made it look like it should actually work. I always assumed that it doesn't work well since I haven't heard anyone...

Banana Pi BPI M2 Zero drop in replacement for Raspberry Pi Zero for RaSCSI?

So with persistent digging I found that I'm not the only person who's had this thought AND I answered my own question in the process. Looking through the git repo for the project I found that someone had opened an issue with this EXACT feature request a couple of months ago. It has already...

    My Finds

Oh I missed the TiBooks! I was busy posting. That's another machine I'd absolutely LOVE to have. They're the last and most powerful laptop to be able to boot OS 9 right? I've pretty much shifted my collection to being entirely portables for space saving reasons. Tried to anyways. I'll...

    My Finds

Welcome to the obsession! Ah, the good ol' Bondi Blue. I've got one of the first slow 233Mhz models. Had Linux running on it once upon a time. Last time I powered it up I think the CRT was getting a little fuzzy though. I remember when these things came out and everyone was...

Your MacX (or other 68k X11 sever) experiences

I haven't really used X11 forwarding much. Just once to play with some GUI apps on a supercomputer I had access to and wanted to see what was possible with it. I was lying in bed and the thought came to me that I remembered seeing X11 servers for classic Mac OS and I started wondering if there...

Banana Pi BPI M2 Zero drop in replacement for Raspberry Pi Zero for RaSCSI?

Oh also I've been out of the retro mac computing game for quite some time. What's up with the PiSCSI - RaSCSI name change? I noticed I couldn't find the original project and it was under a new name it seems.

Banana Pi BPI M2 Zero drop in replacement for Raspberry Pi Zero for RaSCSI?

I did a little digging but couldn't find a definitive answer. All Raspberry Pi's have become ridiculously expensive unobtanium recently which has me looking for alternatives for various Mac related projects. MacIPgw, RaSCSI, etc. Of course the Orange Pi has been suggested as a good...

Wallstreet PDQ not even trying to boot from CD-ROM

Not sure about the CF to IDE adapter but when I upgraded mine with an mSATA SSD to IDE it started having issues with the CD drive too. I think there is something weird going on with the Master/Slave/Cable Select settings with new (in my case cheap) storage solution IDE adapters. I just...

    modern images in photoshop 1.0

If graphic converter won't do what you need I'm sure GIMP will. It's completely free, VERY powerful, and it runs on all modern operating systems. It is what I use to make popper resolution 1bit images to use on my Compact Macs and Powerbooks.

I have a brand new CRT to LCD bracket adapter for the old 9inch CRT macs

Gah! That's so cool. Oh yeah I looked at the HJ080IA-01E mentioned in that post before for such a project. Just couldn't remember where I found it. I actually have a surplus of working CRT/analog boards though and not enough logic boards to drive them so I'd probably be more interested in...

I have a brand new CRT to LCD bracket adapter for the old 9inch CRT macs

I'm sure I could find it with a little searching but what LCD are people using with these? I've wanted to do this for a while with one of my empty compact Mac cases I've got lying around.

    Powerbook 180c psu replacement advice

The the "pencils in a vice" method works INCREDIBLY well for opening these power supplies if I do say so myself. I've cracked open quite a few of these now and it always works a charm.

    Odd issues with PDQ

The backlight turning itself off is a very common issue on OS X - Jaguar with with Wallstreet/PDQ Powerbook G3s. I find that Jaguar and Panther are total garbage on these machines. I run Tiger on my PDQ - it has the maxed out 512MB of RAM though. OS 9 is so much faster on it I rarely switch...
