Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Seems like a perfectly viable plan to me. Might be neat to get a video card for it one day and drive the LCD with color/greyscale. I like the thread title btw.
The weird SCSI video out device is called a Radius Powerview. Should probably work with any machine. I have one.
They were also trying to emulate that device's functionality with the PiSCSI at one point. I don't know how far the development got though.
Oh I know but not all of the PB1xx series batteries were designed that way. I have one which has a non-removable faceplate and I've had others that never had a battery at all. But yeah my favorite PB180c gets the original battery door.
I also modeled the battery door. Not specifically for use with that shell just to plug up the hole in the side of my PowerBooks that were missing their battery.

I've seen a few different types of PB1xx series batteries. Unfortunately many are ultrasonically welded together and thus there is no glue to soften and no way to open one cleanly. Some aftermarket batteries actually have screws. There may be some with glue as well. Luckily there is a 3D...
Historical note - Made in Japan used to be the gold standard for 'junk' in the days after WWII and now if you see Made in Japan you tend to think that it's probably a high quality item.
The FSB speed and clock multipliers are set by resistors on the daughterboard and it is possible to change those settings to say overclock the board or swap out the processor for a G4. You would also need to swap out the cache chips to match your new processor speed. I've moved CPU cards...
Well turns out this was a lost cause. I guess flimmaker needs too much memory. I watched it fill up the RAM and the SWAP then it died. It might work on the 8GB version of the pi 4 I guess.
That is correct. From what I recall reading there were some stability related issues with the higher FSB models of the WS (possibly due to heat) which is why they backed it down to 66Mhz on the later models.
Kinda expected a hostile response to that but was still curious what would be said. I've never actually done it that way but out of the many power supplies I've recapped there is one that couldn't be saved so I planned on doing a transplant one day. Now I'm interested to hook up a recapped...
Any reason to use Disk Copy 6.3 over the last version available - 6.5b13?
6.3.3 is the version I use for 68k Macs but I've always used 6.5b13 on PPC's running OS9.
I have my own set of tools I've collected over the years but I thought it would be interesting to ask the community what things they think are essential or really useful/cool. Go ahead and include no-brainer stuff like the latest version of DiskCopy and Stuffit too. I'd like to see an all...
Try removing the CD drive. A few people have experienced odd behavior with IDE adapters. My theory is that it has something to do with master/slave/cable select drive settings. Since there are usually no jumpers on laptop drives there's no way to change this.
If I do any more of these Powerbook supplies in the future I'm going to swap the insides with a modern equivalent rather than recap them. Planning to try out this slightly more powerful 7.5V 4A supply from ebay.
Great to see people recommending the two pencils in a vice method. 😁
