Good point! I think I'm going to write up an article on this. I know it has been done before, but I think people might benefit from an updated point of reference.
The combo 10.4.11 update does that, once installed it will allow WPA but not WPA2 on the original Airport card. Some of the research I've done over the past month, seems to suggest that the original Airport cards are also very picky when it comes to none Apple routers. Apparently some of them...
Hi thanks
I kinda figured it out in the end. When I thought I'd swapped the screens around, I'd actually only mirrored them. It worked while ever I had my apple - vga adaptor connected to the rear of the machine, while the monitor was plugged in to the ATI rage. I guess the onboard video port...
Hi there
I have a PM8500, which I'm repairing. Just got the video card finally working but it won't let me set the primary display. It's outputting video from the PCI video card as a secondary monitor. So I have no menu, just the wallpaper. How do I tell Mac OS that the vga out of the rage128...
Not sure if I follow you. At the moment it is the only solution I have and it works alright. I'm going to look at replacing the router with something with more functions.
Received an update last night, the drive has been shipped. I think its coming from Spain, so it might take a while to get here. Really looking forward to being able to write stuff using the Pismo.
I know that is an option, but I don't really want something poking out the side of the PCMCIA slot. It's finicky I know, but I'd be worried about snapping it off or damaging it. At the moment I have a second, hidden hotspot, using mac filtering. It only has the Pismo's mac address stored, so...
MikeatOSX - Thank you for posting those pictures, I think I know which drive I'm getting now. The Samsung SD-R6472 is a no brainer, it used the existing fascia plate, which is exactly what I wanted.
Some of the other do look pretty good, better then I'd expected actually. It's great that you've...
I took a look at your site, I'm not to bother about a DVD writer (would be nice tho), a CD writer, DVD reader would be perfectly fine. I just want a drive that I can use the original facia with. So that the Pismo looks like it should do.
Could you recommend a drive? I think I spotted one on...
Hey guys
I think the DVD drive in my laptop in on the way out, I'd like to get my hands on a replacement. But still want to use the original fascia to keep the laptop looking original.
UPDATE
After working on this a little further, I've concluded the Virgin Media Superhub2 and the airport card simply aren't going to talk to one another. Not while ever WPA security is enabled. Seeing as the Superhub2 allows me to setup more then one hotspot, I have now setup a secondary access...
Could you possibly post some info on your airport card?
As all the sources i have read, say it only supports upto WPA-TKIP, there are even some threads on 68kmla, with users encountering the same issues as me.
Here is a thread on the apple site, which mirrors a lot of other sites online...
Well after a lot of messing around I can only conclude my airport card is damn picky.
Are there any cards out there that offer better support for modern wifi on a pismo? Such as support for wpa2.
On further reading the original Airport card does NOT support WPA2.
The two routers are different, because my gf is on ADSL and at home we are on 100mb broadband. Her router is pretty basic, but both the Pismo and my G4 Ibook work like a charm. Up until upgrading to 100mb, we had a Superhub v1, but because we upgraded, they had to give us a gigabit router /...
