Yet more testing around shows that with the power adapter plugged in, that power manager A/D line spikes all the way up to 6.2 volts. As far as I know, that should stay below 5, with 7.5 volts across the battery resulting in 5 volts on the A/D line. Makes me wonder whether that over voltage is...
I'm curious, are there different cables to use for SCSI vs ATA drives? My 2300-upgraded 280 uses a SCSI drive. It would be interesting to see the pin connections for the ATA drive, might be able to bodge something together to use cheaper drives in it.
And if you have the ATA cable, that means...
The G4 plug is not compatible because it's a smaller diameter. A G3 powerbook adapter would work, I've used them before on my Duo. Note that the common yoyo adapter has two styles, one for iBook G3 and one for iBook G4. The G4 style has a darker grey plug which is smaller diameter, and the G3...
Ouch, that sounds like a rather extreme example of corrosion.
Given that you measure basically nothing coming from the power supply, there are several possibilities. It could be that inside the mainboard there's a short to ground; this should cause the power supply to go into current limiting...
Finished my little program, here are the results in CSV output by signal, with VIAD0-7, PMAck, PMReq, PMInt close together for easy comparison. All signals are included, and these files are over 100 megs. Not the friendliest for LibreOffice, but it does open them eventually. Note that I set...
Fortunately getting data from the LA was really easy. Plug into ethernet, go to IP address in browser, hey look there are the files. No complicated or proprietary nastiness to deal with.
This logic analyzer data is not really messed with or organized in any sort of manner. I just hooked up...
This morning I got a trace from successful powerup, then let the system sit for awhile and got one from a failed powerup. The output files are larger than I expected, need to figure out how to network my logic analyzer to get them onto my laptop (won't fit onto a floppy). Then I'll make a...
I have several (like four) 610 mobos that I'd love to get working again. Life was interrupted by moving a few years ago and only now am I getting real time to do electronics projects. Maybe once my backlog is more empty I can get back to them. Could be something as simple as a trace corroded...
Tested the theory of chips getting warm/hot today, with nothing getting warm on the motherboard after three hours. Touched every chip, every mosfet, just plain nothing.
And my pin headers finally arrived in the mail today, so I finished soldering my portable power manager connector stuff...
I'm thinking 33 uF 25 volt based on the E in the second row of text on the capacitors. Also because there are 35 and 25 volt caps on the board.
To be totally safe you could use 35 volt capacitors (even if they're larger than original) because higher voltage rating is safe as long as the...
Yeah, that battery looks thoroughly leaked and dead. Rebuild is not likely to succeed because of all that visible corrosion.
Clean up the motherboard and things as much as you can, should be fine.
Count yourself lucky it wasn't much worse. There are some people here working on battery...
You should be able to remove the battery after taking the laptop apart, yes. Just push it right out of the little metal cage. If there is any bluish / greenish / whitish corrosion or leakage from the batteries, wear rubber gloves. Nickel metal hydride batteries are dramatically safer than...
The charger absolutely needs capacitors replaced. Last one I opened had a literal pool of cap fluid in the adapter housing. I've read that putting a flat screwdriver in where the cable exits the adapter housing, then giving it a twist will pop them open easier. But that didn't work for me...
Mine does this too. Sometimes starts right up after pushing the power button (meaning the display comes alive immediately and things proceed as usual). Other times, black screen for a good 30 seconds. Unsure of the cause, but seems fairly benign given that the machine keeps booting properly...
Basically only the scsi2sd right now. Not sure if the macsd has PowerBook sized versions.
I'm working on a PowerBook sized ardscsino, just ordered my first set of test boards and connectors. So it'll be something like a month or two before I can test it. The ardscsino is slower than scsi2sd but...
Haven't actually done the replacement yet, just pulled the old ones and did a board wash. I do prefer to use electrolytics for replacement just because that way I don't have to worry about derating, differences in leakage current, etc.
Need to give the solid polymer capacitors a good look...
I just opened my 280C to replace capacitors. It's not that bad aside from the display center hinge cover. That thing is a nightmare, haven't found a good system for removing yet. And some of the body screws were broken out of their brass inserts (not by me, broken before opening).
As for...
Duo 2300 Motherboard Capacitors:
* 100 microFarad, 35 volt (4 total)
* 100 microFarad, 25 volt (1 total, one of the smaller two)
* 47 microFarad, 35 volt (1 total, the other smaller one)
^ The above three are all marked nichicon
* 33 EHA 5B7 (2 total, unsure on capacitance or voltage...
