Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
After many years of procrastination, I decided to tackle my first 68k recap. I relearned soldering when I recapped a chinese OTA DVR, so the Classic II should be doable.
My Classic II became unusable in 2011. The repair work is well overdue.
I used the wire cutter/sharp pliers method to remove...
I went ahead and bought a new in box Apple Ethernet NB for $22. Anyone have any suggestions for how to scientifically analyze the potential performance boost?
Perhaps I will film the unboxing because it's a new Apple thing from 1991. It's just an ethernet card but it's a cool...
There are a bunch of Apple Ethernet NB nubus cards on eBay right now, some of them sealed in box. The card has it's own on board 68000 CPU which runs a dedicated networking OS to offload network traffic processing off of the host Macintosh. Apple claims this architecture results in overall...
Very nice find! $100 is reasonable for that haul, perhaps even a bargain given how valued the Color Classic is despite it's anemic performance.
Your lucky both PB180's still have workable hard disks. My PowerBooks are slowly rotting away due to failing SCSI drives. It's probably worse to let...
Your 100% correct. The add-on card on that Rocket is a dual DSP card. I have another Rocket Stage II with a SCSI-2 board that will be going into my Quadra 800.
Thought I might as well start cataloging all my conquests going forward in a single thread.
I bought a NewerTech MacClip Jr on eBay for the low sum of $4.99, new in box. It's for the Quadra 800 and 840av and advertises up to a 40% gain in performance. I will be putting that claim to the test...
I suppose more details about my loaded IIfx can be saved for another post, but I will share that the VideoSpigot works awesomely. I don't have video clips quite ready yet but I do have a photo of the card nestled in with the rest ready - anyone want to play name that card?:
Thanks! That driver worked perfectly. The card is completely operational.
Realtime view is surprisingly smooth when the window is kept at the default size. You could use this to watch something without much difficulty. The smoothness probably has more to do with the 40mhz 030 of the IIfx than...
I got the card in the mail today! Very well packed and placed in a new antistatic bag. It is detected by the IIfx, so at least it's probably functional. Unfortunately I cannot find the drivers for the Spigot anywhere. I can find drivers for the newer SpigotAV/Spigot Pro, but not the original...
7.1.1 Pro would be an appropriate version of Mac OS for it, correct?
My IIfx is running that as well as my Quadra 800. Radius Rockets are also very picky about OS version, although some claim better compatibility than actually exists.
It is a video capture card, one of the first commonly available ones for the Mac. It was designed to go along with QuickTime when it launched so people would have a means to pour video into digital form.
It’s not a fancy card by any means, just a single composite input. IIRC the frame rate cap...
I decided to give my Sonnet Sonata 24 Pro a try for the first time today. Stuck it in my Radius 81/110 and it works fine, albeit slow since the drivers are not loaded. Performing heavy searching dug up nothing. The Wayback machine has some files archived but the file size is suspiciously small...
I had a bit of an impulse buy today. It's been a very, very, very long time since I bought anything 68k Mac related. Browsing eBay I ran into a fairly cheap SuperMac VideoSpigot for $17 with shipping included. I have two different SuperMac Nubus video cards so I thought this would pair well with...
If you want the G3 accelerator card for your new 7200, let me know. Its small so shipping to Canada should not be too horrible.
I really liked my 7200 until the plastics started crumbling around it. When I merged my collection into one home I had to let it go.
Try this software:

I have no experience with it, but its worth a shot.
Also, where did you get the System 7 image from?
