Yep this was also my immediate thought too, before even considering hardware failure... very common cause of problems for those trying to use early Airport on modern networks. You are more likely to find a router that doesnt support WEP than one that does these days so Airport is realistically...

Yep no problems at all booting from an external hard drive. :) But yes, Pluses never had an internal anyway... booting from floppies and running off floppies was the normal manner of operation back in those days. Hard drives were very much a luxury item... First Compact mac to include one...

Highly likely I'd say... everything else Apple made in that era had cheap rubbish caps etc so I see no reason the Airport card would be an exception. lol

Could be a simple matter of protocol incompatibility, as there are a LOT of non-Apple routers on the market that Airport cards simply will not negotiate a connection with. Basically unless it's an Airport base station you are using, it's hit and miss as to whether the router will support an 11b...

Man, this thing is a godsend... for the past 15 years Ive been using a small multi-bit driver with a handle just narrow enough to slide down the sides of a compact handle... except for Classics which are ever so slightly different in that area so I had to dodgy my way round them with a flathead...

Update on the second Classic... took it apart yesterday after my last post, and glaringly obvious are what look to be the two filter caps busted open, which would have explained at least partly the screen interference years back... so analogue board definitely needs to be coming out for further...
