Original iMac 233... need advice w/ booting (and odd noise)

Sometimes a Flyback transformer will make a noise like that when it starts to pack on the years. Either that, or they constantly make a high pitched whine while in use.

    iMac Flower Power / OneScanner

Flower Power iMac....nice. Even though yes, they are ugly, they have become rather sought after, due to their rarity, and can go for a couple of hundred dollars on eBay.

    Warning! Exploding Maxell PRAM Batteries

Remember, these are 20 - 25 year old batteries. Any battery that old can leak or even explode. They're simply not designed to last that long. Personally I always dispose of batteries when they die.

    Removable media, which is better

As some of the people who were here back in the old days will remember, I got a Zip in 2000 that lasted for about 18 months before it got the "silent click of death". Never been a real big fan of Zip drives after that, however really, after all this time I'd imagine that any Zip thats lasted...

    Lombard

Nice score....while its no Pismo, the Lombard is still a very nice machine. As for software - your best bet would be eBay, or our very own Trading Post.

    Old Printer Ink Cartridges

I would imagine it would depend on what kind of refill kit you have. 's a video that shows you how to do it with one type. Either way, I highly doubt we're going to run out of them any time soon, a quick Google search for "Canon BC-02" only turns up like, a zillion stores that sell it, as well...

    URGENT: Keep OS variants alive!

I didn't mind At Ease...mostly because I ended up having to live with the alternatives instead - Kid Desk in Grade 7, and then I went to a high school with no Macs...just an entire sea of Ipex 486's netbooting Windows 3.11 off a Novell server. (VERY slow at the beginning and end of classes when...

    Barn score.. not mac

To be completely honest that doesn't surprise me...a lot of PCs from that era don't really like drives bigger than say...8GB. I have an AMD K6/266 with a board from late 1997ish, and it doesn't like drives bigger than 20GB.

    Quadra 700/7600/G4/800

I'm pretty sure the B&W G3 had them as well.

    URGENT: Keep OS variants alive!

I believe it was also released in Australia, and parts of Europe and Asia...don't quote me on that though.

Old 802.11b/g Airport Extreme removed support from 10.8??

Nup, no AirPort base station has *ever* featured a web GUI or telnet access, though I think some support SNMP.

    Usb to SCSI converter cable

Oh man, I remember these! NewerTech made one too. Just keep in mind, a lot of people complained about these back in the day, as they were only USB 1.1 (USB 2.0 hadn't shown up yet), and were a tad slow and unreliable. Still, nice score. :)

    PM 8500.

Official system requirements were 32MB of real RAM with 40MB of VM. I actually ran it on my 1400 with that back in the day, and it was terrible. However a few months later I got my iMac, with 96MB of RAM, and it was much, much, much better. Even with 64MB, its really quite usable. Given that the...

Sounds like the floppy drive heads are dirty. You can clean it with a floppy drive head cleaner disk (good luck finding one new though), or if you're very, very gentle, you can do it by hand with a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol. Also - with a G3 and that much RAM, I can't imagine you having...

    Indigo!

Yep, its a common issue on slot loaders, mostly due to the excessive heat they generate, due to them not having a fan. I have two slot loaders, an Indigo and a Sage iMac DV+ - I haven't been game enough to pull apart the top half of either due to this very reason.

Old acquisition, but nearing their day.

If you can fix it, SE/30 definitely gets my vote. Failing that, the Plus. By the way - am I the only one here who happens to actually *like* the SE/30 case design?

Did any G4 Macs have temperature sensors? My TiBook only has HDD temp.

    Wifi/BT & Ant. for 1.33 G4 Mini?

So long as it physically plugs in, I doubt you have anything to worry about - really, for the most part, a WiFi antenna is a WiFi antenna is a WiFi antenna. I have an Acer thing that I equipped with WiFi, it was originally never designed to have WiFi...I used antennas and a card from two...

    mini!

Not bad. :) And yeah - if it needed repair, and was most likely going to get chucked, yeah, I'd definitely call that a conquest.

PowerBook 540c - lower 1/3 of the display is white

I might be interested, depending on whether I can fix this one...given that 540c panels aren't getting any easier to find, if I can fix this panel and keep one more in circulation that'll make me a happy chappy. Anyway, its definitely the panel...I pulled the panel apart this morning...if I...
