Mac 512Ke gets some modern press.

Very nice! I stopped buying MacLife soon after they stopped being MacAddict, I'll have to pick up a copy.

    Mac SE incoming

On Friday I bought some long Torx bits on eBay, which came today. So I pulled the logic board out of the SE: As you can see the battery looks fine, there's no corrosion around it at all. However there's a lot of corrosion near the back. Looking at the EMI shielding, and the inside of the...

    LCII & SE FDHD

Some very nice hauls there. That LC II is immaculate. (apart from the pen markings above the ports - what are they?) On that topic - I notice the LC II is a Singapore unit - I would've thought that all American Macs would've been from either Fremont or Sacramento?

How would a compact look today?

Imagine a 9" version of the current 21" iMac and you might be close.

    Gee Five!

On one the headphones jack connector came loose, on the second the battery connector :'(

    Gee Five!

After unsuccessfully attempting to replace the logic board, twice - I gave up and got another mini off eBay. I'd like to think it'll be here next week sometime. And this one I won't kill. If I do - I give up completely.

    Mac SE incoming

Hmm, was just having a look at the back, the SCSI port is epic rusted. I wonder if there's a battery bomb on board. :'( And to make matters worse, as it turns out my long handled T15 is back in Queensland.

    Mac SE incoming

Aaaaaand I got it. Came with an Apple Keyboard II and an ADB Mouse. This weekend I'll clean it up and see what I can do about Simasimac.

    Mac SE incoming

After I leave work this afternoon, I'm going to take the trek over to North Sydney to hopefully pick up a Mac SE. More details later....

    Re-conquest! Power Macintosh 5200CD

All 5xxx series are supported to run up to 9.1 by Apple, G3 or no G3. You'll have no trouble reinstalling OS 9 on the machine, however until you get the Sonnet drivers, it won't recognise/use the G3, you'll be stuck with the onboard 603e.

    Re-conquest! Power Macintosh 5200CD

For the record, its actually the analog board that limits the 5260, not the logic board. Even if you were to put a 5500 board in there, it would still top out at 640x480. On the other hand, my 5260's logic board has quite happily run at 832x624 in a 6200 case in the past. :)

    Re-conquest! Power Macintosh 5200CD

You wouldn't have to do that much - great thing about the 5xxx series is that they actually have a full metal chassis underneath, you can just take the plastic pieces off each machine and swap them around, no messing around with CRTs or analog boards required.

    Gee Five!

I'm not sure...I don't think it is, it doesn't scratch in the way, say, Titanium does. (for the record, you'll be pleased to know I have one of those too)

    Missing Macintosh logo

They were never even sold as a service part, they were always just distributed as a part of the case. Your best bet is to steal one from a broken/crappy case part of another Mac.

Thanks for Warning on PRAM Battery Exploding!

Since moving interstate, I had to leave most of my Macs back at home. One of the things I did, prior to leaving, was to remove ALL PRAM and PowerBook main batteries. Leaving them in is just not worth the risk.

LC PSU Board inside an Apple IIe PSU (Power Supply)

My Platinum IIe runs an external AT PSU from an old PC. Uglier than sin, yes, but I never have to worry about it not having enough oomph to run the machine.

    PartsBook 1400c/133MHz for $.99 . . .

Not bragging or anything, but I have 3 12x 1400 CD-ROM drives. Much like the other good things in my life, I found them by pure luck, purely by being in the right place at the right time after looking for one for years. And no, I'm not planning to get rid of one any time soon. :) Apart from a...

    Gee Five!

CC_333 is correct - all G5's are OS X only. They'll run 10.2.7, the "For G5" version of 10.2.8, and anything else from 10.3 to 10.5. As for what I'm going to use it for...at this point, Photoshop. I have an older version of Photoshop that'll do well on here, and I've never had a PowerPC thats...

    Gee Five!

I picked this one up on Monday night, but didn't get around to taking pics of it until just today. Anyway I picked up a Dual 2 Ghz G5 from another member on MacTalk on Monday. $50 got me a Dual 2 Ghz G5 with 8GB of RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro and SuperDrive. It had no HDD (which I quickly fixed), but...

    MDD Zip 750 Kit!

Very interesting - I never knew there was a Zip option for the MDD! And I see that it comes with a new bezel that replaces one of the doors with a Zip slot. Interesting.
