    GONE!?! NO! download.info.apple.com

I can still get a directory listing of http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/ and http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Apple_II, but no higher directories.

Public Service Announcement: Whatever you do outside of the 68kMLA is your business, but discussing it here, or doing it here, is against the forum rules.

Upgrade SE to SE/30 while keeping original chassis

As some of you will know, I have an original SE. Its an original, 800k drive, SE. I also have an SE/30 logic board on its way to me, according to FedEx it will be here on the 11th. I've learnt basically just tonight that the official Apple Mac SE to SE/30 logic board upgrade incorporated a...

    Macintosh LC I - Oddities - eBay

Neither that drive nor ribbon are Apple - I'd say that it may have originally had no HD, and that at some point someone may have put this HDD and these cables in.

    Mac SEx :) (sort of)

Yep, correct - the 'x' stands for "expanded", so at the time they were going to bring out the IIx (Mac II, expanded), and SEx (SE, expanded)...then quickly realised that they cannot release a computer called the SEx. :)

    Mac SEx :) (sort of)

Just won an SE/30 logic board on eBay. :) With this I'll not only be able to bring my SE back to life, but also give it a nice little upgrade in the process. :) As for the thread title - I always said that if I were to ever get an SE/30, I would refer to it as my Mac SEx :)

Using non Mac hardware with Macintosh Color Monitor?

"12" 'zaToppers" = the 12" displays marketed with the original LC. For the record, the Macintosh Colour Display (which the OP has) also makes a good 'zaTopper. :) (speaking from experience :))

    Apple / Macintosh brochure

My guess is that they're talking about solutions such as SoftPC and the Orange386 card.

    iConquest

Yep - the original purpose of a MicroDrive was actually to be used the other way around - as a cheap way of getting more capacity on CompactFlash devices.

    Sexy, Cool(?) 45W A/C Adapter M4402 . . .

I remember reading about this on the MacAddict Forums back in the day. The guy who started the thread on it said, "You really do have the power to burn."

    4th Gen. Classic iPod

Eh, I'd just use a CF card. The way I see it - the more adapters, the more to go wrong.

    iConquest

If the drives are dead, I'd stick CF cards in them. You can get them cheap enough these days, even in sizes (8GB+) that are bigger than anything that came out in a mini. As long as you get an ATA/UDMA compatible card it should work. I run a SanDisk Extreme 16GB in mine, with that and the...

Can an SE run with no PRAM battery?

So I have a Mac SE thats giving me Simasimac. I'm thinking of washing the board and also doing something about the corrosion near the back. However, its an SE board with the battery soldered on, which obviously I want to remove. My question is- can an SE run without a PRAM battery? I know the...

    16bit Video Card + 1400c/G3/466/64/12xCD = Nirvana! =8-D

NICE! :O For the record, if I may ask - where'd you get the G3? As a broke high school student I could never afford one back in the day, and of course now they're rarer than rocking horse shit.

    MicroQuadra!

Thats a Macintosh Colour Display. Nice 14" Trinitron. I'd be surprised if you haven't seen one before - they sold millions of them mostly with LC series machines.

    MicroQuadra!

Very nice...while I have a 475, I've always wanted a 605. Because they're sexier. :) Also - the mouse isn't exactly period-correct - you need an ADB Mouse II to be completely period correct. :) Oh, and I envy your caddies! (I only have two)

    Hardware Test for Compacts

For AASPs, there was MacTest Pro. For the rest of us, there was TechTool Pro, as Byrd mentioned. While TTP 3 has steeper requirements (I seem to recall it needing an '030 and around 8MB of RAM), older versions should be more compact-friendly.

    LCII & SE FDHD

Singapore unit = it was built in Singapore, as seen by the "SG" at the beginning of the serial number. The serial number would start with F if it were built in Fremont, CA, or XA or XB if it were built in Sacramento, CA. (for those of you playing along in Europe/UK, Macs with serial numbers...

    Mac SE incoming

At the very least I'll have to try washing it first - at the moment I get Simasimac. :(
