The 1400 initially shipped with 7.5.3 + an enabler, up until the 1400c/166 (and possibly the 1400c/133). I got a brand new 1400 back in the day and it came with 7.6.1 preinstalled. The installation CD also came with 7.6 and the 7.6.1 updater. The 1400c/166 definitely will not boot 7.5.3, and...
The older drives aren't as badly affected by dust as newer drives. I have an old Seagate 40MB drive that I sometimes take the lid off and use just to watch it spinning and reading/writing. It's never skipped a beat.
But Schmo...I hope you haven't got that 5.25" drive plugged into the SE....do...
My two favourite keyboards:
ADB: Apple Extended Keyboard II - this was my favourite keyboard up until the Das came along. Love it.
USB/PS/2: Das Keyboard - just beautiful.
My first Mac was an LC III (the one in my avatar, actually). It was the machine that made me get into computers in the first place. The only reason it didn't make the move to Sydney was due to space constraints. (its safely stored at my parents' house back in Queensland, along with the other 98%...
Yep, even back in the day people complained about the speed of the LC II. When the LC III came out, I seem to recall it being marketed as twice as fast as the LC II. We had LC IIs in our classroom in Grade 7, a friend of mine had an original LC back in those days, he said that his original LC...
They were actually serious about that - I still have the Getting Started guide that came with my LCIII, which states that while some LC PDS cards can be installed by the user, others must be installed by an AASP, because they require moving the logic board. Some things never change - Apple has...
Thanks guys. I'll get a pic of the logic board tomorrow - it'll be dark by the time I get home, and my living room (where that photo was taken) has crappy lighting for photos.
Another issue I neglected to mention - sometimes the ADB won't work. For the record, the capacitors are "Quino"...never...
So...my SE/30 board came yesterday. Its awesome, and everything. Its been recapped too, which may/may not be a bonus. And I've almost got it running an OS. Almost. Which is even more awesome. But...I have a problem. Two problems:
- The machine has jailbars, as you can see in the image below...
Yep, everything runs on good ol' 240VAC here, though our 240VAC is single phase. (unlike yours?) The next step up from household single phase 240VAC is three phase, which IIRC is 400+ VAC. Household circuits generally run 16A fuses for power circuits, and 8A fuses for lights.
