    Starting on the SE

No, that'll just gunk up everything in short order. You'll want to clean it up and use something like white lithium grease that doesn't dry out rapidly and won't attract dust.

    SE/30 logic board foreign object?

That's a small surface mount capacitor shoved in. For what? I don't know, but if it works, I'd leave it.

    Board repair recommendations

Did you lift a pad or lift a trace? Lifting a pad is generally pretty easy to get around. You can scrape a little of the solder mask off the trace (carefully) and bend the lead over to solder onto that, run a small piece of wire from trace to component lead (if it can't bend) or just run a wire...

    Marathon Computer iRack DV

That's an RS/6000 40p. 66 MHz 601, some amount of ram, 350 meg hard drive, Diamond S3 based video card. Running AIX 4 now, although if I can dig up the PReP floppy for it, NT4 would be fun to try out. It's not particularly fast, but the NT4 support is the only reason I really got it. I've got...

    Marathon Computer iRack DV

Right about a year later, luck strikes again. I'll do some testing and pics later, but I've gotten three more iRacks. Now I have three iRack DVs and two original iRacks. I'm going to have a whole datacenter of these things in a few years at this rate.

    IIsi works, then doesn't

Power supply caps in these systems (both 475 and IIsi) are known to fail. Sometimes they work after sitting, sometimes they work after a few times, sometimes they work with some heatgun action on the caps, sometimes they don't work at all. In some like the 475 (and LCs) you can often hear the...

Macintosh LC Takes Forever to Boot

Does it chime then take 10-20 minutes or does it make no sound and just take that long to get going? If you haven't already, you're going to need to recap as a first step, both logic board and power supply. With these particular systems, the caps aren't a "which one" but "Which one hasn't"...

    Apple PHX 100

But isn't the 603 more akin to a Celeron than a Pentium II/Pentium III? The higher end x86 boxes were the Pentium II and Pentium III, while your home consumer model was typically a Celeron or K6. The higher end Macs used a 604/604e while there lower end were a 603/603e.  You could get something...

    Yellowed(brown?) Performa 550

I'm all for woodgrain chassis and gold buttons. It'd certainly be unique :)  .

    Tantalum recap success

I’ve found flush cutters to cut the cap off then flux + desoldering gun to work really well for removing caps and not damage pads. Makes for nice shiny clean pads as well. https://i.imgur.com/QpQEJ5C.jpg[/img]

Power Computing Power Base 200 Problems

It’ll work fine without the L2, it’ll just be quite sluggish. Think like a PowerBook 1400/117 if you’ve ever used one of those. No idea on the ram.

Se/30 have to bang the box to get a screen

Check the solder joints. I bet there's at least one cracked joint.

Power Computing Power Base 200 Problems

I'm not terribly surprised. I have a PowerComputing something or another 200e here that also had bad L2 when I got it. In my case, I wouldn't even get a bong though, just turn it on and nothing. Ultimately ended up just throwing a spare G3 upgrade I had in it and it's been going ever since. ...

Where can I get an Apple iBook clam shell cheap or free

Nope, that's an official ATI package. You'll also find them in HPs, Dells and a few servers. Here's a pic of a 2850 motherboard and you can see the weird ATI package on it

Flea Market Mac IIsi and Mac II(fx)!

Keystone P/N 1058 is the holder. I bought them from mouser, link here https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/534-1058 .

Macintosh IICX No Video After Recap

Did you recap the power supply? They do need recapped just as badly as the logic boards do.

Flea Market Mac IIsi and Mac II(fx)!

That's a mod I did myself. The capacity of a CR2032 is a bit less than a 3.6V 1/2 AA battery but they're also available for $0.26/ea rather than $5/ea. Plus they're a bit less prone to leaking, not completely immune but I've run across maybe 3 leaking CR2032s vs a bunch of 3.6V 1/2 AAs. I've got...

Flea Market Mac IIsi and Mac II(fx)!

Went ahead and recapped the IIsi logic board today and it's back alive and kicking. I dind't recap the PSU but that's going to be something the next owner does. Not going to be keeping it, really no need to when I have a IIfx and a IIcx both sitting here. Just gotta clean up the flux residue...

Flea Market Mac IIsi and Mac II(fx)!

Decided to hit up the flea market today and I suppose it paid off. Managed to pick up a Mac IIsi for $20 and a Mac II with a IIfx upgrade board for $40.  I'll start with the IIfx since it's the more interesting of the machine. This machine started life back in 1988 as a plain Macintosh II...

Which Mac was the last that could run 9.22?

The 1.5 is just a plain boring Sawtooth Macintosh Server G4/500 with the weird 155W redundantish PSU. I do have a few other machines I can try out like a 1.0 MDD if I can find the time.
