What to do with my LC III...

You could also add Timbuktu, so that you could actually use the computer without a monitor.

How do you remove the PM 5500 fan/HS?

Doesn't it have clips on the under-side of the board? (All of the 5x00/6x00 machines I've had do).

    Which monitor?

    Macintosh Performa 6116 & Roland mt-32

I use a MIDI Timepiece (original) by Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU). I think even the modern versions have an 8-pin serial port for older Macs. MOTU's own FreeMIDI software works good. The MIDI Timepiece is not a "dummy" interface - you can do a lot of complicated setups with it. And best of all...

    630 solder pads

ROM SIMM, most likely. I have had several 5400 board with pads like that, and the diagram shows that they are for a ROM DIMM - except they ended up soldering the ROM chips directly to the board, when they went into production. Boards that actually have the socket are probably either early...

    laserwriter II paper out

Thanks for the info. I cleaned out the Ozone filter in mine, less than a week after I got it. The I/O board has about 35k pages on it, but I was told that there was a previous board used in it (NTX I believe), so I have no idea how many pages are on the engines itself. Any ideas if you can still...

    laserwriter II paper out

I also just remembered that one of the fans, either the top or bottom, does not run. Any ideas what would cause that?

    Which monitor?

Yes, they're not the greatest, but for this application, it doesn't need a great monitor. Just word processing and mild internet, mostly. I don't have a spare VGA monitor, and I don't want to go down the list of manufacturers and model #'s to find which ones are good, reliable, etc.. I did...

    Which monitor?

Actually, both the M.S.15 and Color Plus 14 used Shadow Mask displays. However, I will be going with the M.S. 15. :)

Copy a floppy that is protected

Ah yes, Digital Performer. I bought one on eBay last spring, that came with a key diskette that didn't work. After a month with tech support, they sent me a CD containing Digital Performer 2.7, which doesn't require a diskette. As long as you can prove that it's not pirated, they'll most likely...

    Which monitor?

It's a 6200. I may put a 6300 board in there, though. It won't be used for TV probably. Considering that the computer won't get a lot of use, the chances of the 15" monitor dying are probably slim.

    Which monitor?

I am in need of opinions! :) I'm setting up a Performa system for use at my grandmother's house. It will be used mainly for Microsoft Word, and Quicken, however it will also have a modem for some internet access, possibly email. The only part I can't decide on, is which monitor to pair with...

    Power Mac 9500 startup woes

Software for processor cards in PCI power macs is not *required* since it replaces the original processor. It will run just fine, except Apple System Profiler may not display the correct speed or processor type.

    Test LC Power Supply?

Hi Grampa. :) My LC's power supply has the same symptoms you've mentioned, the clicking sound. It's most likely toast.

Advice Wanted: Quadra 605/LC 475/LC 575...which to get?

I'd go with the 575...it's convenient and compact, and offers everything that the 605 and the 475, with the addition of the comm-slot.

    Outbound Notebook

According to Wikipedia, Outbound was NOT an Australian company - which a lot of people said it was. :-/
