    The easiest way to check for the drive's health should be to connect into an internal SCSI bus, boot the Mac from a floppy with SCSI Probe installed, if the drive doesn't show up, you have a bad drive (controller board?)

    I suggest getting this adapter: https://www.ebay.com/itm/116115441906 Then getting etiher a ZuluSCSI or the latest BlueSCSI (for initiator mode support), if the hard drive hasn't died it will be easy to get a bit by bit copy of your friend's HD.

    basically dumps a bit by bit copy of hour hard drive into an image file, latest BlueSCSI supports it, ZuluSCSI does it too.

    Is this the same as? System="MacPlus" I was playing with a Mini in my Portable, wouldn't boot (sas Mac) until I added this to the .ini!

    Are the SCSI buses terminated? I read recently that the 8600/9600 don't boot when the buses are not correctly terminated, if you disconnect the buses they are not terminated...
