Mac os 6.0.7 for powerbook 140/170

Cool. Hope it helps. It's pretty full on the disk. You can remove some of the control panels/extensions (or whatever they're called in 6.08) and get enough room for an app or a game or two.

Mac os 6.0.7 for powerbook 140/170

Found the old image and uploaded to free hosting site: .ZIP archived the original .SIT file for extra protection and possibly her/his comfort. Let me know if it gets wonky.

    Macintosh SE

A few months back, I was helping someone out by taking a large collection of books to the library for donation. There were lots and lots of boxes of books, but tucked in the midst of them was this guy: The person didn't know how it got there, and yet there it was. It's a bit rough, with some...

    SE/30 (finally a working A/UX machine!)

basalgangster wrote a good article on A/UX (read it here http://basalgangster.macgui.com/RetroMacComputing/The_Long_View/Entries/2010/9/25_A_UX.html). Among other general observations about the OS, he wonders why didn't Apple pursue the Unix strategy. He points out that Apple was dumping copious...

Maybe this is old news... (protype Apple II content)

Ran across these doing some random image searching. They are the Frog Design "Sneezy" protoype that apparently later became the IIc. From a Frog Design display in March 2011. From this Flickr stream:

    Reviving the Umax J710

Yeah, I remember paging through the catalogs of the big retailers. The Umax C500 ended up being in my price range when it was being blown out, so that's when I got one. I think the Umax machines were pretty sturdy, but the Power Computing ones I had where kinda flimsy. The ATM screen is...

    Reviving the Umax J710

Some pics of the boot process. Forgive the refresh bars. First boot led to some bad news: A quick restart without extensions proved okay, so I tried it again. That's more like it. :) About This Computer: Newer Tech Gauge utilities are on the HD. Matrox Mystique video...

    Many macintosh!!!

Nice haul! Love the design lines of the Classic over all other compact Macs. Yours looks like it has a nice bright screen.

    Reviving the Umax J710

Thanks guys. I used to own a Umax C500 and it was one of my favorite Macs, clone or otherwise. It was a very solid machine. The J710 ( as you can tell from the photo) uses the same exact case as the C500. In fact it has a lot more in common with the C500/C600 than the J700 it was replacing...

    Reviving the Umax J710

Some pics of the disassembly in order to get the battery in. Umax J710: Open case - top view: Front bezel removed. Two of the bezel tabs were broken, but I could only find one of them. :( The legendary G3 processor. Removing the drives sleigh. Battery case ready for testing.

    Reviving the Umax J710

One of the more rare Macs, even if it is a clone. The J710 was the last production Macintosh clone made. It was Apple approved hardware and even got the go-ahead for the System 8 license, but the expense was too high. Mine comes courtesy of the Umax man himself, Kennedy Brandt. This was his J710...

Mac os 6.0.7 for powerbook 140/170

If someone has a bootable System 6 image for the Powerbook 170, I'd love a copy. My PB 170 hard drive is dead, but I still want to get some use out of the machine. Would prefer basalgangster's updated version, but I'll take what I can get. PM me please! :approve:

The 270c's screen looks super bright and clear. Low mileage maybe?

    Powerbook 170 -- It's Working!!!

Hopefully I didn't find out the hard way. Fingers crossed that the HD was on its way out already.

    Powerbook 170, Duo 230 & Powerbook 3400 - FREED!

Do you think there's a strong chance I damaged it permanently? That would be a real bummer. :( I picked up an 8v/2.5a power supply. I was hoping that it would work out, but I wonder if even the extra 1/2 volt would be too much.

    Powerbook 170, Duo 230 & Powerbook 3400 - FREED!

Posted this same question in my PB 170 thread under the Powerbooks forum. At the risk of seeming impatient, I thought I'd ask here as there seems to be more eyes. Would running the 170 on a 12v/2A instead of 7.5v/2A damage it? It ran for a total of less than 10 minutes in 2-4 minutes sessions...

    Powerbook 170 -- It's Working!!!

The first time I saw it was after I had been exploring the hard drive. I got up to get something and came back after a couple minutes to find what I think is the Macbugs screen. If I pressed escape, I could get back to the desktop, but it was frozen. When I did a hard reboot, it started to go...

    Powerbook 170 -- It's Working!!!

I should also add that the hard drive doesn't spin up anymore. It (obviously) did when it was booting into the system.

    Powerbook 170 -- It's Working!!!

Yes, it does. It has a reset and the debug switch holes. pressing the debug switch gets me: 0000000F 0000000D But this isn't the same as the screen I was referring to. It's been a long while since I've seen it, but the other screen reminded me of the Macbugs utility thing.
