Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

@frankz yes, it's quite bizarre. According to the logfile analysis we've done, the commands match the SCSI2SD V5 exactly, until one command hangs at the STATUS phase. Everything looks perfectly as it should up until that point, so the reason for the hang is still a mystery. Another person with...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Can you share the exact version of HD SC Setup you were using, so we can attempt to replicate? Thanks!

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

How strange. Thanks for sharing this information. This isn't something we've ever run in to in testing, but we'll be working on replicating the problem, and we'll see if it's something we can get to the root cause of.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thanks for the logs, @frankz . I was able to get my Mac Plus to power up, after some surgery, and can now replicate the same behavior here, with my Mac Plus. Stay tuned. We'll get this figured out. It may not be until Tuesday/Wednesday next week though, as I'll be going off-grid to go camping...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Can you set EnableSelLatch=1 in the [SCSI] section of your zuluscsi.ini? This is the equivalent of checking the "Respond to short SCSI selection pulses" in SCSI2SD-util, in the context of a SCSI2SD V5.x On the CodeSrc wiki, Michael McMaster (creator of SCSI2SD), back in 2017, wrote "The Mac...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Apologies, I got my wires crossed. Someone else here had an SE/30, and I incorrectly thought that was you. My bad.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Not yet. Thanks for the log. Why do you have SelectionDelay set to zero in your zuluscsi.ini? That isn't necessary on any mac other than the Plus, and that's only because it's SCSI implementation was not entirely compliant to the specification. Please remove that and try again.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that you're initializing the drive with Mac OS 9. That seems...unnecessary, and ill-advised, given that Mac OS 9 was PPC-only. Can you try booting one of these pre-made images and see if you're able to copy reliably?

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Once it's initialized, you can re-partition it and make it use the full amount of space, within Disk Tools, but it must be done in that order. Thanks, Apple! Sounds textbook-successful so far... Strange. Are there any other devices on the SCSI bus? If you boot from floppy, does Finder see and...

They should always be drive images. the Macintosh ROM can not boot successfully from SCSI devices that don't include a partition map, to the best of my knowledge.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thanks. This is the latest released version of the firmware. What's the size of the exported volume? Have you tried one that's smaller? If you could create a file named zuluscsi.ini, and in it place the following in the [SCSI] section: [SCSI] EnableSCSI2 = 0 ...and see if that changes the...

@frankz what's the firmware version on the Mini? It's logged to zululog.txt

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Done! It's now linked under the resources drop-down on the main http://zuluscsi.com website. Agreed. Your feedback is appreciated. If there are areas within the documentation that you feel could use improvement, always feel free to shoot us an e-mail.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

In those sorts of situations, it would generally be advisable to reach out to the vendor who sold you the product, for technical support. Have you? I'd recommend checking out http://zuluscsi.com/ZuluSCSI-Manual/#using-quickstart There's additional documentation at...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

It does not. Very few people use it by default, and for those that want it, it can be easily added.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Yes, I absolutely meant 33C93A for the built-in controller on A3000. A lot of the other, less expensive Zorro II SCSI controllers did use 53C80's though.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

As with most things, it depends on a variety of factors. On the Amiga 3000, for instance, the built-in SCSI controller is the 53C80, which is the primary factor limiting throughput, not the ZuluSCSI itself. There are a variety of SCSI controllers available for the Amiga, some Zorro-based, most...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

ZuluSCSI was not designed as a replacement for SCSI2SD V6. It was designed due to ongoing component shortages which have made it impossible to purchase the semiconductors necessary to assemble more SCSI2D V5's. It performs better than SCSI2SD V5.x by a wide margin, and for many people, it's a...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

You're right to be confused. As of yesterday afternoon/evening, AzulSCSI has been re-named to ZuluSCSI. This was a direct result of legal threats. You can probably guess the origin.
