Easy switching betwen B&W to 16 to 256 colours

    They're definitely in 7.5 - it's a matter of it goes back to <7.5.

Easy switching betwen B&W to 16 to 256 colours

The res/colour switch is included in the base modules. The question is if it works on 7.0 (extremely likely not for 6) - possibly. 7.1 is more likely.

    630 in 52xx

I'm pretty sure you can't put a 6xx board into a 5xx chassis. They lack the edge connector.

    MacMini1,1 with Core Solo

re: WiFi, it connects fine, but it can't remember to re-connect when waking up or rebooting, despite the fact my network is already known. re: Sound, I'm pretty sure it's using HDMI audio as it only works when hooked up via HDMI, not VGA. It appears as the internal speaker though, so I'm not...

    MacMini1,1 with Core Solo

Without HDMI, no outputs at all. So far OS X is surprisingly tolerable on a single-core, but VNC sluggishness over WiFi might be masking it. (Speaking of WiFi, it's struggling to remember to connect as well.)

    MacMini1,1 with Core Solo

Hmmm, so the things wrong with it: Sound doesn't want to work. No output devices after turning it off and moving it somewhere else. Zapped PRAM (at least I'm sure I did, can't hear the chime) as well as repaired permissions and removed BezelServices.plist Edit: Scratch that, sound works, but...

    MacMini1,1 with Core Solo

For a low, low price of 30$. Usually you see people hawking G4s for 100$ or more. Good deal. Specs: 1.5 GHz Core Solo, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, and the latest version of Snow Leopard. The previous owner seemingly installed Flash, Chrome, and ran updates, and nothing else. This will probably get...

My Foray into Windows > OS9 Filesharing

Why bother, when you can run a hypervisor on the machine and allocate as much as you wish? It's not like you need to squeeze every last drop, and if you did, you'd probably be installing netatalk/Services for Macintosh yourself. Seriously, virtualization and containers isn't just handy, it's...

minimize a window in Classic ?

Window Shade was introduced in 7.5, and existed as an extension beforehand.

Think C and MPW are very much options.

    What is LC 930?

So I was looking at the System 7 source code, when I saw this Makefile. (Surrounding it is the dbLite, the PB Duo 210; SuperMario, a universal 68k ROM; and a universal RISC ROM.) What's interesting is the mention of DSPs - and the tier indicates a full-sized LC AV Mac? It was in development...

    New OS for PowerPC Macs

For that, at the end of the day, you're still building a flawed, tired-old design on a sunk foundation with questionable legality. Building a new OS is interesting, especially if it's not boring old POSIX, but I question the guy's intent, platform, and capability for this.

    New OS for PowerPC Macs

RISC OS and Plan 9 seem pretty popular on Pi, and I hear QNX has been ported.

Interesting tidbit about Apple firmware hard drives

AFAIK, it was a SCSI command that returned a "COPYRIGHT APPLE" string, not present on other firmwares.

    OpenStep 68k?

Display PostScript was pretty big overhead. Macs were fairly cheap systems design wiae, not really comparable to the pricier Nexts with DSPs and all the other fixins.

    7100 Optimal OS Advice

Pstttt: You can actually run 8.1, and run the Finder from 7.x on it, then strip out the extensions that Finder 8 needed, but 7 doesn't. You now have something that's mostly functionally and visually identical to 7, but supports HFS+. (8.1 and 7.x aren't really that different - it was mostly to...

    Just Wondering

Why bother with a modern day compatibility card, anyways? At that point, just use a Raspberry Pi, and gut the old Mac to install it in if you really want to browse the web on it.

Diablo II Battlechest & Sim City 3000 for the Mac

The third game has been out for quite a while. (I'm replaying through D2X, and currently on the end of Act 2.)

Diablo II Battlechest & Sim City 3000 for the Mac

Check if Diablo was bought for the keys - once you redeem the keys on a BNet account, you can download the games without the disc then. Even then, single player and local multiplayer is very fun.
