Which Stuffit Expander is right for me? (10.5.8)

I'd recommend looking at an old version of [The Unarchiver](http://unarchiver.c3.cx/unarchiver) instead, which supports hella formats and is less terrible than OS X versions of Stuffit.

MacTCP apps freeze when Asante EN/SC is attached.

Have you considering changing to Open Transport? (1.0.x should be an option for sure on 7.1 - possibly even 1.1.x.)

    Use PowerPC for a week?

Actually get patches? (Apple's lifecycle is "kill the old OS before the new one comes out of beta.) If you're concerned with long OS lifecycles, you should really be running Windows or RHEL.

    Transmac alternative?

Yes, because Mac 1.44 MB floppies use the same encoding, just formatted with different filesystems. 400/800k can't be made with PC drives, full stop.

    Nightingale's finds

Nice, a Maritimer! It's hard to find anything vintage here as well. I got lucky and found two 701cses locally, but that was a fluke.

    SuperMac spectrum/24 IV

Stuffit is known for crap version compatibility. Generally, 5.5 is the last 68k version and the one that can decode most archives floating around.

Apple-Del (send to trash) for 7.0.1? anyone?

    rm doesn't work?

Apple-Del (send to trash) for 7.0.1? anyone?

I think the hooks only existed in 7.1.2, but you can see if Scriptable Finder (optional?) and the extensions don't blow up hideously.

    Carbonized Word 5.1?

I've heard rumours of this existing. I'm not sure if it was OS X compatible, or possibly even a universal binary if it's new enough. Is this just a fever dream I had or something that happened?

    Use PowerPC for a week?

2004 also does it with the compatibility pack. (So will Windows Office 2000/2002/2003, if you're running at least 2000.) Combine with native WebDAV support and you should be good to go.

    Email Relay for Classic Macs

If it's just TLS getting in your way, stunnel is an option. Alternative, you could set up an open relay (FOR THE LOVE OF FSM, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS TO THE INTERNET) that authenticates with your mail server - it's just a matter of what MTA you like. Or you could just use your phone beside the machine.

newworld g3/g4 - internal boot from SCSI - any speed benefit over IDE?

You'd think NetBSD would have mature support for SATA adapters. I'd trust it more than another thing in between the HD and the buses.

    Early Finder

Really? Compared to the glitzy-glossy skeuomorphism and sheen of Web 2.0/Aqua/Aero, visually it's much more austere, professional, and less in-face-your-face, and UX wise it just gets out of your way. Metro was a revelation visually, when it came out. There's all different implementations of the...

    Modern Einstein build for Windows

Trying my hand at it - the non-Xcode Jamfiles are an ancient, horrific mess. First attempt with Cygwin blew up horribly - it just doesn't know how to build K, full stop. Tried again on an Ubuntu box, can't find cdefs, install 32-bit libraries, and then it can't find its own files. My Mac is too...

    Am I f----d?

Then why bother trying to find an obscure buggy release when 7.5.5 will be just fine?

    Modern Einstein build for Windows

Did someone compile any? There aren't any binaries available on their GitHub repo, and the latest build I managed to find is from 2007. I couldn't find any newer builds via Googling.

    Am I f----d?

Why 7.5.4 on 68k, when 7.5.5 is less buggy and more or less identical?

    Am I f----d?

Possibly a PPC upgrade is installed, though if I remember, it's tricky to get 9.x working on such upgraded 68ks.
