Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
well the q950 is already maxed with 256mb, afaik the 72pin ram is used in preference to the 30 pin, so some improvement might come there.
The 950 has a fast scsi interface, but not a wide one - but yeah it's onboard so wouldn't have to go through a slow bus. Really have to do benchmarks IMO.
oh ok I thought the 286 cpu was built into the motherboard not the caching controller. The modern caching controllers seem to be mainly for RAID cards btw.
I think benchmarks are the key to solving the mystery of if they are worthwhile or not.
I'd like my q950 to be the best it can be - but...
In low speed computers I'd imagine they'd be worthwhile. A 286 had a VLB slot?? Thought VLB was mainly a 486 thing.
Just doing some reading up on the data cannon/RavenPRO PDS card.. mm that sounds like the SCSI card I want. Wonder how that compares to RAID from 2x ATTO IV cards.
Nice! Yeap far too expensive.
Wonder how it stacks up to the more modern nubus scsi cards (jackhammer, atto IV). It looks like it's from an earlier generation than these. The onboard processor + caching might be of more benefit in underpowered mac II style macs.
I remember looking into...
Saw this on ebay - looks a bit expensive, but I'm interested in what it does. The seller calls it a scsi card, but I see a motorola chip and a ram expansion.
I suppose it could be a caching scsi controller, but I couldn't find any info about it online.
Here's the link...
handy hint - if you're wanting to bid on something, don't mention it in forums before the auction is over. I know it wasn't actually hidden or anything, but you're not doing your chances any good (unless money is no object).
More for the newcomers who may not be aware - but there was a forum before this one. It has a wealth of info & discussion and is still accessable -it's well worth checking out even just for nostalgia.

My confusion was whether the adaptor's additional slot was just passing through the PDS slot or converting it into a slot that can handle the powercache (a IICI PDS slot)
But now i read the back of the box in the third picture I understand. It gives you a nubus slot and a powercache slot.
Not...
Wordperfect has a funky shell like TSR for switching apps on the fly - it generally gets along with anything console/text based. There's a computer chronicles where they demo it I think.
It's a pretty nice word processor - could use it even today (I think george r.r. martin does).
hang on - this is a nubus adapter - not a powercache adapter. Unless the extra slot has "for powercache only" on it (which converts it into a iici pds slot), assume it to be just a passthrough of the iisi's pds.
it would be a big hackintosh once you were done customising - killing any point of the cool form factor se/30. Worth a shot just for curiosity's sake however I agree.
We never did establish if the turbo 601 works in a se/30 did we? Probably a more worthwhile project IMO.
UW drives work as a narrow drive if you terminate (preferably) or disregard the wide bits - you get a converter to do this.
You could probably get PCB manufacture/assembly a bit cheaper. I think olimex were the people to go to for a while - not sure now. The CFFA guy gets things assembled and...
The logic boards are pretty nice for colour classic upgrades, but the 575 is superior in every way besides.
But then again, emotional attachment to a certain thing/model is priceless isn't it?
The killy clip on mine disintegrated over time - had to solder it on in the end. But they notoriously popped off at random times after you moved your mac around. So working.. hmm maybe but with caveats.
Yeah I'm not sure the macrescue board works on a 128k (I used it in a 512ke).. think you...
Nope that's a dove macrescue - I've got one but it was attached by the highly unreliable "killy clip" method (piggy backs over the 68000 & steals the data lines).
You know I was never sure how to get a ramdisk going with it? Haven't used it for a while anyway.
The sad thing is, that...
