Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I'm using it on an iMac G3, 256 meg RAM, and with Dashboard disabled I don't see ANY difference. Not in speed, not in features, etc. But then I don't use too many apps at a time, so no idea what your experience would be with more apps.
That would be great. I've been looking for advice on how and what *nixes I could use on older Macs, and I suspect it would be a great forum...
Admins! Your assistance is required! :p
Nope. No working System disk, and no ADTPro.
Is there a way to put the disk in, say, a Classic, format it for the GS, and use Disk Copy to make a system disk?
Yaaaaay!
I have a HUGE amount of 720k floppies, so that news is great for me.
How would I go about reformatting for the IIGS... without the System Tools disk?
The instructions for most of the System Tools disk images on the net say that the disk must already be formatted...
The circle has no...
Where can I get 800k floppies for the Apple IIgs? I've looked around and they seem scarce. Is it possible to format 720k PC floppies as 800k IIgs ones?
It's the same with ISA vs PCI cards for the PCs. There used to be a giant market of everyone making ISA cards that did just about everything you can imagine, just because it was a simple, easy to use protocol.
PCI killed that.
I liked the conversation, which went something like this:
Me: "I was wondering, uh.. Whose is the Apple IIgs in the computer lab?"
*Pause*
Her: "You want it?"
Me: "Yes!" (barely keeping from screaming)
Her: "OK, load it on a cart and get the damn thing out"
No interesting cards, but hey...
I was collecting a book at my school in the computer lab, when I noticed a Apple IIgs sitting in the corner, packed up like it was going to be dumpstered! Gasp! I promptly did nothing about it since I was in class. However, after school I walked around, trying to find the owner, and I did.
She...
My PowerBook arrived(thanks Macsane!) today, works well. I haven't tested the battery life but it boots and runs for at least 5-10 min(haven't tested past that.) It's got 7.5 installed(Mac OS, not System) and a bunch of software that may be useful in the future. The screen is crystal clear...

"Makes a great aquarium?!!!"
If anyone's local that's a good deal.
Good standards to use are .img for floppies, zips and HDs, and .iso for CDs. These are both multiplatform standards and can be used on almost all computers with appropriate software.
.img is pretty inefficient because it's a direct copy of the data, all of the data, on the device, even empty...
PCs=Clones Clones Clones=Cheap Cheap Cheap=LOTS of them sold.
Waaaay larger market for PC games, meaning Windows only of course. Mac was, and still is, a small market compared to PCs for games. Things like education is a different story, but games, PCs ruled the world.
I posted a want ad on Freecycle, bla bla bla, got a buncha older Macs, and... wait for it... an Indigo iMac g3! It's awesome, got the DVD drive, 320mb RAM, 10gb drive, FireWire, all for free. From what I've seen everything works perfectly.
1) I love my LC2. Great box, but I wouldn't advise buying one for more than about $10.
2)NICs are quite easy to find and work on either the LC2 or LC3, and probably the 475.
I'd say get whatever's cheapest, but if you're thinking about high RAM apps then get a LC3 or 475, because they can...
Inferior?
How so? I use both on a regular basis and Ubuntu is, on average, as good as OSX once you get it running. Like I said, it's on average, so Ubuntu's worse at some things(installation, some configuration is harder) and OSX is worse at some things(program installation, upgrading)
