    400K drive too noisy

OK. Txs. I tried to add some drops of oil in the motor shaft and it seems that now the rotating speed is consistent... I even managed to boot once, but normally I get the 0F0064 error shortly after the happy Mac. I don't know if the boot disks I made are reliable, so I'll try to create a couple...

    400K drive too noisy

I did further dismantling and I’d say the rotor is not that bad… maybe the noise is just friction of the top side pad… I don’t know. Question… is it normal that a 400k drive spins up and down (almost to an stop) while reading, or maybe when there are read errors?

    400K drive too noisy

I tried to look for information about this, but I couldn’t find anything useful. I’m restoring a 512K which is good shape, and the floppy is giving me most of work. The mechanism was stuck and I managed to solve it. Now the disk inserts and ejects fine. But is too noisy when spinning. It...

Can anyone here help generate a serial number for the PT100 terminal emulator app?

(deleting... I responded about "input" before reading you made it)

    Macintosh PowerBook 145/160/170 battery replacement

I made myself a quick&dirt solution for my 145B and now that I'm reading this post, I'd like to ask for some advice, in case I did something stupid or dangerous... This is my mastery job: For not making it too basic, I tucked a thermofuse (65ºC) in the sleeve. It seems to work fine, it charges...

Hello, I just got a 512K and I think your TashTwenty could be a nice addition. What would be the price of a full kit, sent to Europe (Switzerland)? Thanks! Pedro

Interested but confused about 68k PowerBooks

Most has been said already, but just to share my little experience... I have a PB145B that I got for very cheap. I only had to change the screen caps to make it back to live. Then I replaced the soldered PRAM battery for a coin holder and refurbished the main battery cells with a cheap solution...

    Powerbook 145B 8MB RAM Q

In fact the 145B needs an special memory expansion of 4MB. I tried first with the normal one of 6MB that @Siliconinsider sells and it didn’t work, but then Antoine replaced it by one adapted for this particular model (tell him you have a 145B if you ask him for one)

    PowerBook 145 Battery

Yes, it’s glued. I used a cutter and some patience… the plastic is not too thick in the joint of the two sides.

FPU, software, and a Classic II

I made myself one of these FPU cards and, apart of the fun of doing it, I didn't find much use for it. Do you know of any game (maybe some using 3D) that makes use of the FPU?

    PowerBook 145 Battery

As I'm on the cheap side, what I did was to open the case, remove the old (and spilling) cells and put a 6V AA package on it. It only keeps the charge for well less than 30 minutes (I have a BlusSCSI), but it's just for the fun of having it on battery. (I tucked a thermo-fuse under the wrapping)

    Powerbook 145B 8MB RAM Q

Not related to your issue, but I got the memory upgrade from @Siliconinsider and it works like a charm, as I wanted to use Symantec C++ that requires more than 4MB.

Mac mini G4 OS 9 reports

Mine is 1.5 but AFAIK both problems: - No internal audio - Bad quality external audio Happen with all models.

Mac mini G4 OS 9 reports

For me a cheap USB sound adapter did the trick to have proper sound again in games and so on

Anyone using a Macintosh Radius GS/C-MP Video Card (Nubus)?

As CRT I don't have anything that big, so I was just planning to use a Full HD LCD with one of these adapters: Checking twice I see now that the adapter supports 1152x870... I guess it's unlikely it would work for me.

Very neat potential solution for our 30-pin Macs and wanting ALL THE MEMORY

Thanks, I saw this, but I'm not expert and I'm looking for the particular reference of the SOP package, as it's easier to solder by hand. When I made the 4MB SIMMs I wasted already some money because I got first the wrong package and I didn't want to make the same mistake again. :) Also...

Anyone using a Macintosh Radius GS/C-MP Video Card (Nubus)?

Hello, I could maybe get one of these cards and I wonder if anyone has experience with it. In particular... Did anyone use successfully a VGA adaptor to connect it to a modern display? Txs!

Very neat potential solution for our 30-pin Macs and wanting ALL THE MEMORY

Hi Bolle. I'd appreciate if you can give some hint on the right memory ICs to use to make 16MB SIMMs. Txs!

    Imagewriter II Repair

Hello. I know this is a very old thread, but posting here as I have exactly the same issue. My IW2 was working and while printing it made a nasty sound and then it died. When trying to powering on I have the same faint "zonk" and slight movement, but LEDs don't light up. For to try something, I...
