    Suitable fan for SE?

You're completely right - overall I don't think the Noctua replacement is worth it. I swear by them in my modern builds, but for something like the SE it's not a good choice. All that said, I'm not sure what the specific thermal concerns are with the compact Macs. Do specific components put out...

    Suitable fan for SE?

It's a lower flow rate, JDW measured a bunch of fans in this video: Honestly it's still a little noisy, the case echoes the sound so much that it didn't make as much of a difference as I had hoped. The HDD was a much bigger source of noise though, so disconnecting that was good enough for me.

    Suitable fan for SE?

I put a Noctua in mine, not too difficult, but you do have to remove the analog board for it. It's quite a bit quieter, but I believe it also pushes less air than stock. Depending on your setup, that could be an issue, but as long as you're not leaving it on for a long time I can't imagine it'd...

gb6: game boy emulator for System 6

I’ve tried GB68k on my SE/30, and it’s a very unpleasant experience. Games are really more slideshows than games.

Cutting the case of a Mac SE

Wow - that's a fantastic mod! Here's the only build I've tried: (Please don't be mad at me for what I did to that poor Mac... it was 10 years ago and I was young and foolish!)

Cutting the case of a Mac SE

This (or for a ZIP drive) could be a neat third-party mod, for something like MacEffects.

    BlueSCSI Issues - Bus Error

Is this a BlueSCSI-specific issue? The images work fine on my BlueSCSI. I'm not sure how they were formatted, I believe I got the images pre-formatted online. I might check that out if I can't get this figured out, thanks. Haha well in that forum post it was still an SE - I swapped the board...

    BlueSCSI Issues - Bus Error

This is a continuation of an old thread: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/macintosh-se-wont-boot-system-7.792/ tl;dr - Booting System 7 off of my BlueSCSI didn't work. I got a RaSCSI instead, and that worked. Since then I put the BlueSCSI away and didn't think about it too much. I've...

TCP/IP settings on Mac OS 7.6.1

How are you connecting the computer to the router? Using AAUI-ethernet, an expansion card, etc. I'm assuming you're using OpenTransport (I'm not sure if MacTCP is still supported in 7.6.1?), and if so you can try this diagnostic tool: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/ottool-121 Edit: This also...

Getting updated to 7.5.x, recommended networking and graphics cards

While I'm not familiar with NuBus cards in general, they are fortunately pretty easy to find and someone else should be able to help recommend specific cards. Is this your only Mac? A bridge Mac is very helpful, but don't worry if you don't have one, as there's still plenty of ways to get stuff...

Video out SE/30 to VGA or HDMI

I still haven't tried it on mine - it sounds like it needs some reworking before they'll move it into the main branch, and I haven't bothered to switch branches to try it

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

    You're correct - I should have spoken more accurately/confidently.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

To answer some of your questions: The Mac Plus has a weird/non-standard SCSI implementation that doesn't provide enough power for devices, so I believe you do need external power for all SCSI devices The Mac Plus will work great with System 6. Depending on how much RAM it has, System 7 might...

iBook Clamshell - Only Detecting 64MB of 512MB RAM Stick?

I reached out to OWC, and here's what they suggested: I tried both these things (not the rubber eraser, as I couldn't find one at home, but everything else), as well as trying to clean the iBook's pins, but it's still only reading the stick as 64MB. I'm not sure if I'll actually pursue this...

AA battery in 4.5V battery compartment?

That's surprising! 1.5 instead of 4.5 is quite a large difference. Does the clock run slow?

    Strange Mac SE 1/40

I don't have much to add here, just chiming in to say that PDS cards for SE or SE/30 are usually rare enough that (depending on price) it's probably worth buying just for that.

    SCSI Zip Drives?

I’m formatting all the disks because they came IBM formatted, but the point of this project is to transfer data using the SCSI drive and a USB drive - are you saying that doing this may cause issues?

    SCSI Zip Drives?

Side note about ejecting - is that eject button supposed to work? Because as far as I can tell, I can only eject from software. Unless there’s a trick to it?

    SCSI Zip Drives?

Correction - it should only require 1A, that's what the adapter is rated for. Not sure why I said 2A. Oops - already got 4 cheap disks off eBay, haha. I did get a new/sealed one as well, so I'll try to just use that one. Thanks for the advice!
