Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Would something similar be possible on the LC 520/550 logic boards?

    A Color Classic saga

If you’re going to keep the CC at its stock display resolution then the LC520 board is an excellent upgrade. Usually the most cost effective as well. Even runs 7.6.1 decently with some extra RAM installed. In my experience, most games that would benefit from the 550/575 board also require...

    Screensaver for a 128k?

This is the lightest weight screen saver that I know of: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/moire Definitely runs on System 6… not sure if the 2.22 version will work on older System versions.

Trouble Installing DaynaPort Drivers for RaSCSI

Definitely run into the .sit StuffIt 4/5 issue from time to time. I don’t believe that Stuffit 5 works with 68000 CPU either. Very cool though to hear another working RaSCSI setup is working. I’ve also been considering giving it a try.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Any chance of getting that added as a paid option at order time, much like the Floppy-style Berg connector?

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Does the ZuluSCSI come with the disk activity LED connector on the board?

Building an internal grayscale card for the SE/30

    This is amazing, great work!

    SE30, desk picture, decor etc

On an SE FDHD running 7.1 I use Background. Works very well. However, that one doesn’t seem to work on an SE/30. It will load the picture during startup but once at the desktop any draws to the screen (menus, opening windows, etc) will cause distortion and artifacts to the image that don’t...

Sonnet G3 233mhz accelerator and PM 6100 with HPV

@mg.man https://www.kan.org/6100/cpu.html See this page for a diagram if you scroll down. I think you will want part number 922-0768. From last page of PDF https://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/legacy/powermac_6100_series.pdf The frame is also used with the HPV card and AV card. PC Card and NuBus...

Sonnet G3 233mhz accelerator and PM 6100 with HPV

I have a Sonnet 266mhz card and HPV card used together in my 6100 with no issue. do you have the correct metal frame to support the HPV card or is it resting all its weight on the G3? If the G3 card is carrying all the weight it may not have a good connection on the logic board and is...

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

@cheesestraws These look awesome! Would be great for old local talk games (Super Maze Wars off the top of my head) and also moving files between multiple devices. I’m definitely interested in getting some of them.

PowerBook 2400c and CF to IDE adapter

Thank you for the notice on that @beachycove . I hope you can fix yours so that it’s 100% again. I’ll have to see if there is a full size 2.5” adapter of some sort with proper mounting holes. I like the double sided foam tape idea @LaPorta , just not sure if there is a way for me to do it on...

PowerBook 2400c and CF to IDE adapter

Hi @LaPorta Yes it looks like the 1400 has an easier layout. Likewise, the 3400 is also easier to work with. And way different than Lombard/Pismo machines. The setup in the 2400c is a little different. The hard drive is mounted directly onto the logic board, with the front held in place by the...

PowerBook 2400c and CF to IDE adapter

Quick question for anyone that has upgraded their 2400c internal hard drive to a Compact Flash adapter. Did you have to do anything to help secure it to the logic board, or just letting the IDE connection carry all the weight? The 2400c board only has the screw holes at the far end, none towards...

Is there a way to increase the 136MB RAM limit in the Power Mac 6100 and 7100

I also saw that post over on reddit. Yes, 6100 can definitely do over 136MB. As you found it requires the RAM to be installed in matched pairs.

    Buying advice

If you are open to PowerPC based machines, a lot of the early systems are usually cheaper than their 68k counterparts and are compatible with 7.6.1. The 6100/7100/8100 are all NuBus based, I think all after that switched to PCI based. Not sure where the 7.6.1 cutoff is. Pretty sure the Beige G3...

SE FDHD ejects boot disks, won't acknowledge SCSI2SD

To answer an earlier question, you will definitely want 4MB of RAM for System 7, though it will technically run with a minimum of 2MB I think. If sticking with 1MB of RAM, 6.0.8 is definitely the way to go.
