Not really a complete (booting) Operating System, but Minux was ported to run on top of MacOS https://www.macintoshrepository.org/927-macminix-1-5-10-7
According to https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/aliexpress-motorola-68010.41952/ which doesn't link to, but refers to the 68010 worked in a very upgraded 128k Mac. With this success, I've ordered a 68010 to swap into my Macintosh Classic to see if I can replicate his success.
Ah, I am wrong. SoftWindows v2 added 386 emulation, not 486. Even so, 386 opens up a lot more guest software than the 286 from v1.
Macintosh Garden only has the PPC version of SoftWindows v2. The whole point of this specific thread is for the 68k version of SoftWindows v2.
Windows 7 does run in VPC7 on PPC Mac, but without audio, as the SoundBlaster emulated is an ISA card, which Windows 7 doesn't support. I haven't tried Vista, but from my experience with Vista, it would be substantially slower than Windows 7.
Sending files to the SSH server would be awesome. Right now I have them on the same network so I can transfer files other ways, but sending files from the Mac through SSH to the server would be awesome!
Thank you for this!! This is an awesome way to manage a Raspberry Pi.
Now I really want to get an RPi0w on a https://github.com/PiSCSI installed internally for wireless networking knowing that I can remote access the RPi OS from within MacOS.
Ideally, I would love to replace my SE/30 board with an all-in-one Bolle board with 68040, grayscale, and ethernet included. Perhaps maybe even 72pin SIMM with the redesign? Even though I already maxed my SE/30 with 128MB of 30pin SIMMs.
Now that there has been work done to get HFS+ recognized in 7.5.5 it might be beneficial to revisit making a new 7.5.5 'recovery' image with HFS+ support and maybe room for more network and disk utilities. https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/backporting-hfs-to-mac-os-8-0-and-earlier.35742/
I wish I knew about this HFS+ support in 7.5.5 back when I was working on my 'recovery' image https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/best-rom-disk-for-rominator-gglabs.33110/
Wow, I just found this thread and am excited for the possibility!
I had looked into getting a Quadra or Centris 610 for playing around with A/UX and now finally got one. When I found out about the CPU upgrade I was intrigued and my searching led me to here. Is there still interest/progress in...
Hrm, according to https://whitefiles.org/tec/pgs/h10b.htm the 5V power is only on pin 9, which my Classic and SE/30 don't have, so it would mean pulling power from a different port like ADB, SCSI, or floppy.
Which Macs have 9 pin mini din?
I'm wondering if this could be adapted to a RPi0W, using the GPIO to interface with the Mac serial over AppleTalk, and NAT to the network using WiFi... Would the Mac serial port be able to provide the 5V power the RPi0W needs?
This would likely be the cheapest physical adaptation to get a...
Any thoughts on maybe including the network time control panel in the file share and an ntpd server which still supports the older NTP 1.0 standard so all these Macs can get correct time updates?
I've had a lot of time to think about what to include in a 'recover' image on the thread https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=forums&controller=topic&id=56932
I'm curious if we could fit all of these utilities in the 8MB SIMM with System 8.1, I would...
I'm not familiar with the Performa 550 to know if it is 32bit clean, but from a quick search, I think it should be, so the boot image should work. How are you attempting to boot from this image?
Perhaps you misunderstood, in that I am not interested in HFS+ for the maximum volume size, but rather the other features that came along with HFS+:
Unicode filenames
file size efficiency (because of the 32bit file table)
It is also nice to write files to a zip disk in a USB zip drive on...
