What is fun is software that distinguished between a 020 and 030 (like Open Transport) even though there was little difference other than the MMU and the data cache.

And yea, some useful preprocessing I can think of is to convert UTF-8 to an encoding legacy browsers can handle. Only Netscape/IE 4 and later can handle UTF-8. Another example is to add a Host: header for very old browsers, and in fact I think jwz already has a script that can do exactly that.
This don't appear to do much more than disabling JavaScript and style sheets, and most old browsers has built-in support for disabling both, so no need for a proxy to do so. Very old browsers like Netscape 1 that don't support these technologies at all may show contents of these tags though...
FYI, here is the history. With Flash Player 8, Macromedia discontinued support for older OSes like Win95/NT4 and classic Mac OS. But they recognized there were people still using these OSes and so they continued to release security updates for Flash Player 7. There was a technote called "Flash...
FYI, for support of large files you need Mac OS 9, an application that is able to use Mac OS 9's new file manager APIs (BTW long filenames are also supported using the same API too, it is just that most apps did not use them), and the file must be stored on a HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) volume.
Don't forget that most 5xxes shipped with XC68LC040s, while most 190s shipped with MC68LC040s. The main difference is that the latter fixes an FPU emulation bug that made it unusable on the older revision. I wonder whether any desktop Macs had an MC68LC040.
Yea, Netscape 2 was the first browser supporting JavaScript. As such, it only supports the so-called "DOM level 0", which is inadequate for modern Javascript. It do not support includes via
The Color Classic "Takky" mod was about exactly this. The LC 575 is in the same "family" as the Color Classic (indeed people has put LC 575 boards inside Color Classics). The LC 580 is in the same family as the Quadra 630 and the later 5200/5300/6200/6300.
Don't forget that versions before 7.1 are available freely from Apple's web site:

It is because A/UX uses a Unix kernel and thus do not depend on the Macintosh environment set up by the ROM at all (the A/UX Startup app is just a bootloader).
