yes, for sure sound but I was not aware that bad caps could completely take out video… I was thinking that had more to do with bad UE8 and stuff over on the video side
so what I'm wondering is could failed capacitors cause total video failure? You'd think this thing would have the courtesy to give me a simasimac.
if that is the case, I will certainly feel encouraged to recap it.
just tested an SE 30 board with an issue issue I have not seen before.
The board itself looks very clean. I took out the 1989 battery so that might be a clue that nobody has worked on it before.
Capacitors show very little signs of leakage and the chips don't look corroded.
Now the bad news...
yeah, I have one that fails at verification as well. I wish there was someone who understood the logic behind what part of the drive is not working correctly in order to fail verification.
slight progress ...after letting it sit for a few days, now it tries to initialize any inserted floppy… It goes through the formatting process correctly, but when the head is supposed to come back slowly to verify, it doesn't…it goes to re-verifying and eject the disk with initialization failed...
Hey looks good to me...interesting that the pins you have bodges on are on the opposite side of C7...if C7 was the culprit, I'd expect to see damaged pins on the other side..is that the original UE8 chip or a replacement?
Would a bad UE8 completely take out video altogether or just cause anomolies?
I'm gonna be optimistic and put
my money on somebody turned the brightness knob all the way down.
Excited to have a second SE30 on the way. I went ahead and got this one because -
The case looks to be in great shape.
It does not "appear" to be battery bombed. You can zoom in on the profile pics and at least see that the chassis by the battery appears to be spotless.
The video issue might...
thanks! yeah it's still a mystery but if anything else, I'll keep this one for spare parts. I have replaced the eject gears in all my drives.
I know some people recap these. I'm not sure if anybody knows of any failures they could attribute to the capacitors?
I'm having a specific issue with one of my floppy drives (see attached video). If anybody would know the cause, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks for any insight.
