correct yes it does chime after the recap so that did fix the sound for sure.
but yeah, basically video blackout before and after the recap.
I bought it pretty cheap on eBay as for repair, hoping it was something on the analog side but yeah logic board video issues are unchartered waters for...
I'm trying to understand video issues more clearly.
I have an SE/30 board and it chimes and seems to boot, but there is no video output. Occasional static, but usually just completely dark. No simasimac just a blackout with occassional static (see attached video).
It is my understanding that if...
Heres an overview of what (I think) I know so far...
Analog board, CRT and PSU are fine. They work with other SE and SE/30 logic boards and have been recapped.
No video - occasionally displays random dots, snowflakes, static...(see attached video). Then calms down and stays dark.
It chimes...
is it a good assumption that since it chimes, it is seeing the ROM and therefore the board is working, but there is an obvious video issue. In other words, the ROM, RAM And processor are alive?
well, an update… Making some progress.
After a full logic board, analog board, and PSU recap, I've got sound working (it chimes).
Still no video. And that problem is isolated to the logic board because this analog board and power supply work fine with other boards.
The CRT is no longer making...
yeah, I actually use a glass desk which I know is kind of unusual but it's perfect for this because of the suction cup stand.
Not since the Pinecil, have I felt so good about spending 40 bucks on this hobby.
I'm honestly not sure. All I can say is that it is extremely helpful for $37. It's definitely enough to get in there and do some close up work. Nice manual focus too.
I was wondering if there was a best practice for this? How common is it for this to cause continuity issues on the board? i've checked a few and so far no problems.
Maybe I'm late to the party but this thing has completely amazed me today. Not trying to advertise any specific microscope as I'm sure there are comparable ones. I just was not aware this kind of tool was available this cheap...
Checked continuity for everything in the sound circuit as indicated on recap-a-mac. All that is fine. I took out the video chips and video rom and cleaned sockets with deoxit. Cleaned up as much as I could on everything else. Caps should be here by tuesday.
To my everlasting shame, I lifted the pad at C5+ ... all the other pads are OK. Would some kind person tell me where to run a bodge wire from C5+ ? or where to find a clear schematic.
got it, if the issues are all top level stuff on the board, I feel reasonably confident with the repair work. if something bad is going on the inner layers of the board of course it's game over for me.
