    Imitation batteries

So I don't have to enter a DHCP client name or anything? It didn't work when I just set it to DHCP. When I open the TCP/IP control panel, it keeps saying “TCP/IP is not active, do you want to make it active when you close this control panel?” Of course I say yes, but it still doesn’t work...

Issues with my Powerbook-shaped Boat Anchor

Thanks, is there any other way to reset the NVRAM? I have never been able to get the machine to go into open firware. It just boots up as per usual. Oh blast, I think I pressed that about 10 times in quick succession, in between pressing the start button as well. Oh well, still works. You...

    Imitation batteries

Appears to be really good reception so far. I was sitting in Australia on Collins shopping centre (which is gaining a reputation for the best free wireless in Melbourne) and I picked up signals from about 8 open networks. Couldn't do anything with any of them though. :( I presume I just go...

Issues with my Powerbook-shaped Boat Anchor

Thank you gentlemen. The main power battery is brand new and has been working perfectly so I'm sure that's not the problem. I'm dumb so you'll have to explain a few things to me... 1. How do you reset the NVRAM? 2. Where is the reset button on these things? Does it have one? On the back...

Issues with my Powerbook-shaped Boat Anchor

I finally got my Wallstreet all set up exactly how I wanted it; negotiated with the seller for a working battery and found a cheap wireless card to stick in it. All was peachy. Then suddenly today it stopped working! Gordon Bennett!! It’s always had an annoying habit of taking 10 seconds to...

    My own personal, weak, retrochallenge

Update on my using OS 9 as my main system: about 3 days after I posted that, I tried to run Colour-It, it crashed and brought the system down and I had to reinstall the whole thing. heh. It was good for its day but maybe not so good as a main system nowadays. I still prefer the interface...

Should I Package "Eagles Of Honor" ?

What a great idea, Cary. I wish there were more developers who realised you don't have to have the latest and greatest hardware to still make good software. Imagine if mainstream software companies were still developing games like this. I look forward to trying it out. :b&w:

    Imitation batteries

The battery works really well so far. The control strip tells me 4 hours from a full charge, sometimes 5. Probably won't last the full 4 hours but it still gives me that kind of figure after an hour's use. Hopefully the battery lasts and doesn't blow up after a year's use or whatever. I wish...

    Imagewrite II color ribbon

Cool :) I love colour ImageWriters. My earliest computer memory is of printing off a sign on The Print Shop on an Apple II, using one of those printers. At one of my former workplaces they have kept one IIe and an ImageWriter, which they occasionally use to make long banners.

    OS 8.6

Yeah I'd probably have kept it, if I owned the CDs. Ended up putting OS 9 on the Wallstreet. Can't see much advantage to it except that in 8.6 if you go to "Get Info" without choosing one of the submenus, it does nothing. Very annoying. By the way, I love your name and avatar! [8D] Tried...

    Imitation batteries

That's right, but not saying Cardbus is no guarantee that it's 16 bit. I've found one that will work anyway; just as long as I don't get outbid. It's an Orinoco rebadged as a Dell, oddly.

    Imitation batteries

Thanks! I've read conflicting things about whether the Wallstreet supports 32 bit cardbus or not - Apple says yea, others say nay - so I'd prefer to just get a 16 bit rather than taking the risk. Does anyone know how to identify which ones are 16 bit cards?

Need it for your studies? What, the grog?? ;) I don't recall ever turning up to any exams drunk but I was tanked at the interviews for my first three jobs. :D

    So close...

Haha. I’ve had a quiet week at work so I’ve managed to fritter away $200 on absolute crap, so count your blessings as well mate. ;D It can be frustrating though…e.g. There’s this one rare author I’m fanatical about; whenever I see any of his books I buy them… They all start at 99c because...

    Imitation batteries

Thank you gentlemen. I bought it before I saw Tomlee's answer so I hope it doesn't fall to pieces. Should be alright I'd say. I can't find real Apple batteries anywhere anyway. OK, one more question - I wanted to put a wireless card in it, and maybe USB, but I presume you'd need to find a...

What a bummer. :( That always happens to me too, in practically every auction I lose - there's always just ONE miserable bugger who wants it more than me!! > :(

Has anyone used non-Apple replacement batteries such as this: http://tinyurl.com/2lfces :?: And are they any good? Do Apple even make batteries for these old machines anymore?

    Dvorak Keyboard Layout

How long were you using Dvorak for? I've never had a problem with switching between both, though obviously it feels wrong to use qwerty now. Exactly - so the keys are arranged on the basis of minimising the limitations of ancient equipment, not on the basis of what is a logical and fast...

    No I didn't actually. I thought you'd gone crazy for a second. :)

    My own personal, weak, retrochallenge

I think it's 800x600. I personally think CRTs look better than LCDs at any resolution. They're softer and nicer. :D The printer was used but it had been thoroughly checked out by HP technicians before sale, with a year's warranty.
