    Imaging SCSI2SD for 7.5.5

Now that I've gotten my SE/30 running, I'm trying to setup my SCSI2SD V5.2 for macOS 7.5.5. I've been using BasiliskII and SavageTaylors guide, but I can't seem to get the image written to the SD card correctly (a 4GB SDHC). I get an initial "Welcome to Machintosh" but then it freezes and I...

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

I had Thomas from Amiga of Rochester service the board, and the most random failure occurred: the crystal oscillator! No wonder it wouldn't get far in the boot process. He repaired several bad cap solder pads that I damaged during my recap attempt (oops) and now the machine is running great! I...

Who can fix my SE/30's logic board as service?

Okay, I've reached out. Thank you!

Who can fix my SE/30's logic board as service?

Does anyone offer this service in the continental US? I am interested in sending someone my SE/30 board for repairs, located in WI.

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

So at this point, after testing all the VIAs near the audio chips, I'm really considering sending the board to someone to get it diagnosed / fixed. I'd love any recommendations that you all have. Thanks!

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

After dipping the board in vinegar overnight, and letting it air dry for 5 days (plus using compressed air), there’s no change in behavior when booting. Here are some close-ups of the board. It now will only turn on and display the cursor for a brief moment (and a happy Mac if a known good HD is...

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

Thanks for the help so far everyone. Yes, I have changed RAM simms to known good ones I took out of my working SE with no change. I’m ordering specific RAM for this machine anyways just in case it is that picky. As for corrosion, yes there was originally corrosion around the audio chips prior...

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

Interesting. I recapped it with solid tantalums before posting, should have made that more clear. I was talking to someone and they mentioned perhaps the corrosion around the audio chips is causing issues with other VIAs in that area?

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

Ran out of time when editing the last post, but regardless, this error screen does not let up. I’ve replaced the RAM with 4 known good modules, cleaned and reseated the ROM, etc. If I disconnect all SCSI devices and insert a floppy (it has a known good drive which I disassembled and lubed) it...

Trying to coax a “clean” SE/30 to life…

Hey all, I finally acquired one of my white whales, a non-battery bombed SE/30. Upon getting it open and running, it would chime, albeit very softly, and if you pressed the reset button, would instantly error out to a sad Mac message, as shown below: It of course had some capacitor leakage...

ROLL CALL: Mac SE SuperDrive Machines

I have an SE SuperDrive, with F011 as the first four. Maybe an earlier machine?

    Clamshell SE Restoration

I work at an AASP, and according to a friend who works at corporate, it‘s indeed a prototype model, but was so late stage development that it has no differences from a regular production model, it was just maybe one of the first ones to be sold to a consumer is all.

    Clamshell SE Restoration

Hey everyone, thought I would share my clamshell restoration project on here. My first ever mac was a 366MHZ SE G3 iBook, that I got in 2010 to mess around with. It was a cool machine but it soon had logic board issues and eventually refused to turn on. I recycled it, and I recently began to...

The QUEST for a Mac SE SuperDrive (FDHD)

Hmm, is there more information somewhere on where I can get my hands on such a board? Looked at the video but the links I found didn't go anywhere useful. I'd be interested in trying to get it back up and running but I don't have an air soldering station.

The QUEST for a Mac SE SuperDrive (FDHD)

I will definitely do that. That SE will end up becoming my backup or going to a new home. What signs would I be looking for to know it's bad? Scope activity? Bad solder joint? Already re-greased the drive while it was in my parts stash :). I found Adrian Black's video on it during messing...

The QUEST for a Mac SE SuperDrive (FDHD)

Now like I said, not having the floppy drive functioning was super frustrating, it was basically the reason I bought this particular machine. I also thought that I was going to have to source another replacement drive. I posted in the trading post about needing a floppy drive, and another forum...

The QUEST for a Mac SE SuperDrive (FDHD)

Now that SE had a single 800k drive when I found it, someone had taken out the second drive, which was fine for me because I wanted to install a hard disk anyways. I really wanted the ability to do 1.44MB disks though, because I didn’t have a bridge mac to write 800k floppies. After being on...

The QUEST for a Mac SE SuperDrive (FDHD)

Since this last June, I’ve been messing around with classic macs in my spare time. I started with PowerPC Macs back in 2010 and haven’t looked back. From those days I still have a maxed out 1.25GHZ 17” iMac. Back in June I picked up two classic macs for $50. They came with an ADB keyboard and...

Mac SE, can I write 1.4MB floppies or am I stuck with 800k.

It arrived yesterday. After verifying the ROM and SWIM, it looks to be a real 1.4MB capable machine! Yay! Problem is, when I opened the floppy drive to clean it, the top head fell right off the arm! Whomp whomp. Now I need to find a replacement 1.44mb Sony drive, and people want $$$ for them...
