    Farallon Fast EtherTX for TAM

Maybe a rare moment, but I got the Farallon card to work again with the other upgrades attached. :)  Posted a video below. But this only seems to happen if I don't touch the TAM after it boots, this time it was around 30 mins. Ish. Can't guarantee I can replicate it every time though, but I...

    Farallon Fast EtherTX for TAM

Wow, thanks a lot for your input! Makes a lot of sense on the power draw, and I have all of those upgrades...except the 500 MHz Sonnet, Nice!  :)  (Wondering if the 300MHz Sonnet I have in is drawing less power, so allowing the TAM to boot?) Noticed the Apple card had no problems, either, and I...

    $12.99 PowerBook 520c

Looks like it has stock 8MB. There are 16MB modules up on eBay right now. You could turn one into 32MB if you have good soldering skills... there is a thread around here that a member successfully did that  ;)

    $12.99 PowerBook 520c

Nice setup! That’s a great price for a 520c, paid a little bit more for a broken 520 that became my parts machine. Slap a SCSI2SD under the hood, and you’ll be amazed at how silent it becomes

    PowerBook 550c

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the read so far! I’m definitely learning a lot of new things myself! And I hope to contribute in furthering modern day applications for these beautiful machines. I’m out of town atm, but let me address some of your items if I can.  The modem idea: interesting...

    Farallon Fast EtherTX for TAM

Well, this is frustrating. Got the card earlier last week, and while it works, it doesn’t work well. Looks to be the correct part number, has an Intel chip rather than Digital like I’ve seen in pics of most others.  But it installs fine in CS II, no problem. Not exactly plug n play like...

Building the fastest Power Mac 9600

Serious workstation you have going on there. Getting a bit more technical than I desire to understand, but nice job on the chips swapping. Would be awesome having the only upgrade of its kind if you can get the cache working!

    PowerBook 550c

As an update, I got my 3rd 550c up and working! This means I'm going to need another 550c...preferably damaged  :) Also, some photos of all the 500 series daughter cards in case it helps for comparison. Only one of the battery connectors has been replaced on the board though. Waiting on a 520...

    Scutboy's Stuff

Nice looking system! Never hurts to ask, although I never do. I rarely do business on Craigslist tho. That’s one clean looking system!

    PowerBook 550c

I’m about to put each of the 500 series daughtercards that I have into one photo, would be interesting to note the differences of each. If I can figure out how to dump the ROM on the 550c module, I’ll try that out sometime this week.

    PowerBook 550c

I was looking for 550c unboxing earlier on, but, disappointingly, could not find any at the time, so I made it a goal to do a video walkthrough if I ever found one in box. This is a supplement to the pics above from earlier yesterday. Being here in a small town, however, it only took about 10...

    PowerBook 550c

Finally, my babies came! Pics of the two 550c laptops and the other PCMCIA module - turns out, it is a Rev B! I only need Rev A now. :)   Cost about 150 to DHL the large one, 70-80 for the smaller one. Overall...I calculated about 700 + 260, nearly 1 grand for the lot below. Meh Smaller one...

eMac saved from an e-recycling bin

So sad to see these still working machines being sent to be destroyed. Looks like a nice setup you’ve acquired, and for just a bit of effort i remember seeing these computers in the biology lab of my college. Doesn’t seem they were used very often, either. Just sitting on the side benches...I...

    PowerBook 550c

Wow, that's impressive! I love documentation. I save the receipts to every thing I've personally bought...however, since college, that's not terribly as much, or as far back. That's definitely a nice piece to any collection. (Also...had a bad Craigslist experience once when I bought a MacBook...

    Macintosh ED DOVE enhanced

I thought I had posted on this thread before, but I guess not! I don't usually comment on compact Macs as I don't know too much about them, but that is some great work, and I definitely love seeing when someone with as much passion turn something from as bad and nonworking condition into a fully...

    PowerBook 550c

Gracias! I haven't seen the 2100 complete with box very often, and when I have in the past, I wasn't a serious collector. The iPad Air still seems a little better for games... ;)   True true, I see disks pop up from time to time on the eBay, but for near the same price as I paid for just this...

    PowerBook 550c

Small pre-weekend update. Finally got around to snapping some shots of my 2100. And..I found Mac OS 8.1! My 550c computers have reached US soil, and one just delivered yesterday. But it's 1.25hrs away at my parents, and the other just reached Little Rock today. That will be my weekend...

    Farallon Fast EtherTX for TAM

Hi all, I ran into a Farallon EtherTX 10/100 CS ii card yesterday and won the auction this morning. I was surprised to see another bidder put up quite a battle near the end for it...I was half expecting to get it for pretty cheap... so I was wondering if anyone here has experience using this...

    Powerbook 540c Resurrection

If you can get even 64MB recognized, that would be impressive. And I’d be interested in the max RAM you could produce if you decided on production. You’d have at least 2 potential sales ready...! I see, that is a small bump in clock speed though. You’re not alone on that, but I thought maxing...

    Powerbook 540c Resurrection

Nice work, Bolle! Great pics, thanks for posting the thorough process of your work. The module looks like you never even worked on it. The second RAM module, are you making another 32MB?  I read a little about "clock chipping" the daughterboard, I think that's what you did here? Do you notice...
