Mac 512K (or 128K!) shuts itself off, using WeMo and IFTTT.

Here is my latest video showing how to give a Mac 512K the ability to shut itself off using Siri, iCloud, IFTTT, and a Wemo. What's really cool is that this could easily have been a Mac 128K and accomplished the same thing! It may be time to re-evalute what we can do with a Mac 128K, using...

Mac 512K talks to Siri, requests software.

LOL! I had trouble using SSD's in them as well! Wound up just booting off of Compact Flash in the PCMCIA slot. Fast enough....and quiet!

Mac 512K talks to Siri, requests software.

Thanks, J! Bunsen (Burner?), The setup here is the same as my previous posts I've had on here regarding the Mac 512K. I'm using software called EasyShare on the Mac 512K, which shares out a floppy drive over AppleShare. I'm connecting with a LocalTalk cable to a PowerBook G3 (WallStreet)...

Mac 512K talks to Siri, requests software.

This is a follow up video to my previous experiment where I dictated an email to Siri that was sent to a Mac 512K. In the new video, the Mac 512K itself talks to Siri, and requests directory listings and software to be downloaded to it.

    HFS+ Floppy Disks.

Yes, as my original post indicates.

Network Connection to Leopard or Lion?

Yup, 10.2 was the last version that could share files under pure AppleTalk. After 10.2, AppleTalk was for printing only, until 10.6 when it was completely removed.

    Mac 512K server update.

Hey everyone! It's been a bit since I've had anything new to post about my Mac 512K experiments, but wanted to note a couple of things. First, with Mobile Me shutting down, I had to move my site. It's now simply http://www.nilesmitchell.com. I have a Mac 512K section where you can still...

    Text Adventure

For all you Mac OS X retro gamers, I've written my first game. It's an old fashioned text adventure. I grew up on these things, and always wanted to write my own. It's available in the Mac App Store. For anyone who is interested, here is the link...

    Mountain Lion and Classic Macs

Got back from vacation this past weekend and was able to give Mountain Lion a whirl. Really just good news to report so far. Nothing concerning Classic Macs seems to have changed from Lion. I can confirm that Mountain Lion still recognizes Classic Mac Apps for what they are (sees the resource...

    SE/30 booting off CF success

JDW, I didn't do anything special to accomplish this. Just slapped the 8 Gig CF card into the slug, and inserted it into the PowerBook. I partitioned it with Drive Setup. I think I've used both 8.6 and 9.1 version of the tool. If you're having issues booting from the PCMCIA slot, I would...

    SE/30 booting off CF success

You can absolutely boot a WallStreet from the PCMCIA adpater! I do it all the time! Any of you that have watched my Mac 512K videos know that I'm using a WallStreet as my bridge machine. It boots up from a 8 Gig CF card in a 16-bit PCMCIA adapter. Works just fine, and is slightly faster that...
