XPostFloppy - Free app for formatting floppies on OS X without Disk Utility irritations

I wanted to share another app I just wrote. I have been irritated that for years the Disk Utility app in Mac OS X can't format a disk in HFS+ without journaling turned on. This requires about a minimum 9 MB disk, which excludes floppies. You can go to the Terminal and do just HFS+, but that...

OldHex - A BinHex tool for Mac OS X. Now for free!

Years ago I used to sell a BinHex tool in the Mac App Store called OldHex. I haven't sold any apps in the store for a few years now, but I figured I might as well give OldHex away now to the community. I've recently updated it as a 64-bit app, and you can either drag the files onto the Classic...

DaynaFile - 5.25 inch floppies on a Macintosh.

If any one needs the System 7 driver for this (I've tested it through 8.6 so far), here is the link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jbfdb7d32vjszwo/AACWeq5YSqOoBKgSggZFsU7wa?dl=0 You would only need the DOSMounter control panel if you're on a Mac without PC Exchange, as it does the same thing.  I...

DaynaFile - 5.25 inch floppies on a Macintosh.

Would be a neat experiment, but I don't have any real Apple II disks.  It would probably image them as MFM ProDos disks, which the emulator would not be expecting.

DaynaFile - 5.25 inch floppies on a Macintosh.

The DaynaFile is a wonderful piece of lost technology for the Macintosh.  It's an enclosure that houses PC floppy disks drives (most importantly, 5.25 inch) and connects them to a Macintosh over SCSI.  I looked for one of these for a long time, and was lucky to find a unit that was in...

    Bernoulli Drive connected to iPhone?

Feel the Bern!  Bernoulli, that is!  These drives were Iomega’s flagship product for over a decade before the Zip Disk.  Let’s see if Siri and I can get one to work with the iPhone.

Apple Hard Disk 20SC connected to iPhone.

It’s branded a Castlewood, but in reality it’s made by Shuttle Technology, which apparently made a lot of the USB 1.1 adapters.  No drivers needed.  I have had a lot of luck with it, more videos coming soon.  I hear the USB 2.0 adapters need drivers.

Apple Hard Disk 20SC connected to iPhone.

As long as they are formatted in either FAT or HFS+.  Unfortunately, the iPhone can read old HFS.

Iomega Jaz (SCSI) connected to iPhone?

I wanted to see if the Castlewood ORB SCSI to USB adapter would work with another manufacturer's SCSI device.  What better one to start with than the Iomega Jaz drive? https://youtu.be/QXQWEGX7RYc

SCSI Castlewood ORB Drive connected to iPhone?

Somehow they skipped past my attention back in that time period.  I just learned about them recently.  Apparently, they could be problematic over time?

SCSI Castlewood ORB Drive connected to iPhone?

Native USB devices are boring. Let's see if we can connect native SCSI devices to an iPhone. First up, the Castlewood ORB Drive! Enjoy! https://youtu.be/IS29bQ4-ffw

Iomega Clik! Disk connected to iPhone.

These little things were marvels of mechanical miniaturization.  They were doomed to die quickly, with flash memory dropping in price soon after their introduction. Still, very fun to play with and to see if I could get them working on my iPhone.

    Apple HD20 SC question

The Gentleman on eBay selling one confirmed the 600e goes from 0-6.  Maybe the manual was only recommending 1-6.

    Apple HD20 SC question

Well, I was trying to decipher the German manual for Apple's 600e CD-ROM drive, and it looks like that one only goes 1-6.
