Congrats! The Classic II was the first Mac I ever bought!
There's really no reason to put Open Transport on a Classic II. For one thing, OT runs horribly slow on a 68030, especially one with a 16-bit data path like the Classic II. Also, the only way to add Ethernet is with a SCSI to Ethernet...
I read this article today about serial cables coming to iOS devices.
http://www.macworld.com/article/156735/2010/12/redpark_unveils_serial_cables_for_ios_devices.html
Got me thinking that an iOS Terminal App with document storage and this cable could communicate with a Mac 128K and MacTerminal.
Very interesting.
Definitely has a third party memory upgrade. You also mentioned it was using a 800K floppy drive, so that would mean the ROM has been upgraded as well.
Not quite a Mac Plus, but not a Mac 512K anymore either. The Mac 128K and 512K are inherently defined by their memory...
Thanks. Was wondering about what tools I'd need to pop the ROM out.
Don't think a Plus would work with the 64K ROM. Too many of it's new features depend on the 128K ROM, like SCSI.
I'd like to my hands on a Mac 128Ke for some experimenting. I actually had one of these back in the 90's when I owned a few 128k's. I remember being disappointed that it wasn't a "pure" 128K! Needless to say, I don't have it anymore, and they are almost impossible to stumble upon.
Which...
Glad to see you liked my setup, macjaapt! Mac128 is probably right. Having the same Terminal software on both ends should help.
I actually got my 512Ke to serve webpages using EasyShare. Basically, I used the mounted 512Ke share as a file repository for Personal Web Sharing on my PowerBook...
I had a Mac 128Ke (128K ROM) back in the 90's, and it worked fine with the HD20.
I would say the minimum requirements to use the HD20 natively is simply the 128K ROM.
If you have the 64K ROM, then you need to use the HD20 INIT, which requires 512K of RAM to load.
Hope that clarifies things.
Does anybody know of audio software that will play on a Mac 512K? I know there were a few, but everything I've found seems to have higher system requirements than the 512K can handle (either RAM, System version, or Processor). I'm looking for something that could play either an AIFF file or...
Yes, I'm running the demo too. It's all I've been able to find.
The server itself doesn't stop serving after 10 minutes, it just drops the connection. All you need to do is re-connect on your client.
You can write an AppleScript that mounts the share, dismount's it at 9 minutes, 55 seconds...
I had it running just fine on an LC running 6.0.8. It was released in 1990, long after System 6 was out.
Do you see the extension load during boot up? If you do, is there a line through it?
Hopefully, Netatalk gets tweaked better for OS X, and someone writes a GUI front end for it.
Anybody know what flavors of AppleTalk it shares down to? All the way to 1.x?
New videos up. Added one that shows how to take a picture on the iPhone, and send it as a GIF directly to the Mac 512K. The second is how to scan a picture in as a GIF, and send directly to the Mac 512K.
Enjoy!

Found a copy of System 3.3. Got the EasyShare INIT to load with it, but seemed unstable. My Mac 512Ke bombed a couple of times when copying files to it. Under System 4.1, it's rock solid.
Tried the System 3.3/EasyShare disk image on a Mac 128Ke version of Mac Mini. While it crashes after...
I wouldn't say that article contridicts my statement. I would say it confirms it. 1.5K lost may not seem like much on a Mac 512K, but on a RAM strapped 128K, it could make the difference between an application working or not. :beige:
