The 68000 PB screen capacitors are bad all over the place and if there are any artifacts on the screen its a pretty sure bet that they need to be replaced. Remove or replace  the battery and replace the capacitors on the screen inverter board while you are in there. If the hinges are intact...

I've tried Lido and Blue disk manager on a plus  and G3...same results, finds the drive, but does not acknowledge the presence of a disk (no media inserted).  He stops when he got down to the part that exposes the heads....I thought if you could clean the heads after 35 years it would be a good...

The one that started to format was recognized by system 9.1 with "This disk in unrecognizable, do you want to format?", then stopped during the process. I've tried Lido, PLI formatter, SCSI director, Bluedisk manager and Silver lining. The switch is set to SCSI.

Have you tried holding down shift-option-command-del and the external drive SCSI ID number? i think they will recognize some external CD drives but no others, be sure to try a few times.

These guys were't kidding. This is an old SCSI drive from Club Mac (pioneer inside). It reads single layer DVD ROM and that is ALL.

Ditto...take it apart and get the number....I have have taken a few apart several of the ADC LCD monitors, expecting to find the same part number, but haven't. Did replace the beat up  LCD in a 17 inch with good results but probably got lucky with located that exact part number at a cost less...

Its actually pretty darn quite compared to the internal.

I picked this up locally planning to use it with a IIc. It looks the part, it even came from the local school system. The last 2 characters on the model number are even "GS". There is a disk inside it...Wheel of Fortune" form 1988 that says on the label "Boot DOS disk (version 2.11 or greater)...

I have  PB 160 and 520c  that, aside from the hinges, have been good. found one non-working Duo about 2 years ago...now have gone down the rabbit hole and have a bin full of parts for duo's without a single working unit. Not recommended.
